I'm sure Bioware would have put a proper sex scene into the game if they could, but as we all saw in that Fox News shitstorm, the world isn't ready for it. Sad, really.
If you're watching Fox News, you already are biased to the point of no return. Bioware could have made a pure porno game and it would have stirred the exact same outrage. I bet they had put it in for publicity purposes. :p It worked.
Besides, that shitstorm only existed in America. No other country on the planet had any problem like that.

Sex worked perfectly fine in Silent Hill 2. I want more of that.

Its put in Mass Effect for emotional reasons, you know. Its like a device to help you care about the characters. And in the game its not like you have to do it. You can just be mean to everybody. If you didn't want to see it don't complete the optional storyline. I mean it just sounds like your (cobrausn)complaining to complain.
Bollocks, I didn't give Ash the time of day, then outta' nowhere, she jumps my boots! I wanted Liara dammit!

Eh, it really depends on the type/genre of game. For example adding Sexual content to something in the vein of Counter Strike would just be pointless. However if used properly in certain types of RPG or Adventure games where character interaction is dynamic I see nothing wrong with it at all.

TBH though, they really need to cut the middleground crap. . .I mean take a look at Fallout 3 for example. . .they put a hooker in the very first town for you to pick up should you feel so inclined. And you gotta pay perfectly good caps for her company, and all your character gets is that she goes upstairs and lays on the bed. Now, I'm not saying that she should get up and play the rusty trombone or anything, but if you wanna talk about the pointlessness of it. . .

Sex and the like only becomes unnecessary when it becomes gratuitous. If it is properly worked into a story, sure, why not? It's a little ridiculous to make a blanket statement saying "SEX SHOULD NEVER BE IN VIDEOGAMES, KTHNX". With a few qualifiers, I could very easily agree, however; "Pointless nudity/fanservice and/or sex has no place in video games."

You know what I'm saying?

Exactly. There's no point having a sex scene that doesn't serve the plot (well there is, but if that's not the point of the game then it shouldn't be there) but you could say exactly the same thing about films, TV and books. I think we should be able to apply the same standards to games as we do to other media, which among other things means not being afraid to include a sex scene if doing so helps to tell the story.

If sex contributes value to the story/setting/character development, then sure.
But it's almost always been gratuitous. Not that TV or movies are any better in that respect.

So in short: why not?

Sexual relations are a real part of life they should be a part of games. That said they fail pretty hard when you censor all the way back to a blank screen.

As long as it's tasteful and not excessively hardcore, why not.
I don't see anyone whining about sex in movies.
For example, in Mass Effect the sex scene was revelant to the story. Shep and Ash loves each other, the next mission could be their last...What's there left to do?

If it adds to the story or characters then it's fine, but when sex is shoehorned into anything, whether it be games, films, whatever, it just looks weird, I'm looking at you Watchmen film.
The sex scene in Watchmen wasn't pointless.

The search button is your friend. Now with that said; I think that sex should not be in games unless essential to the plot arch. If its just mindless pointless fucking it does not belong.

Until the rest of the world outside videogames decides to grow up and realise only SOME videogames are for kids instead of ALL of them, we have to take small steps.
Videogames are in a censorship period like rock music and movies had. We'll get through it once people properly recognise videogames as a true medium of entertainment. And I dont mean just playing the Wii and saying "oh I get it now" because the Wii is mostly for kids.

It seems that many of us folk are of a similar frame of mind, all we need to do is convince the media to change what they're showing, and the populace to change what they want.

Oh, wait... the populace is a sexually-saturated morass of pop culture, bad music, and bad writing.

As long as it makes sense for the sex to be there, I see no problem with it. Movies have sex scenes, why can't a game with a REAL plot have a sex scene as well?

I agree that If its relavent to the story then there should be no problem with it, that means any one who moans about GTA stripclubs can go F*** themselfs. If the public can take the fact that the legal age in england to have sex might as well be lowered to 14 then I'm sure its about time we some SEXY TIME in Video games, and it better be done well... for plot.

well you've got games that put it in because it highlighted love or feelings. Such as in Mass Effect and Farenheit.

Then there are games that put it in for no reason, such as GTA: San Andreas, although they did remove it, it was possible to even take part in a sex mini game using mods/cheats

Then there are games who seem to solely advertise on it, such as seven sins, although i may be wrong as i havn't played it.

I suppose sex in games is ok as long as it just isn't in there for the sake of being in there. Also, if sex is in a game, surely the age rating will reflect it... so you can't really argue that sex shouldn't be in a game due to children playing the game.

Totaly agree, within the past few years the age on some movies has dropped by quite a lot.

WRONG, the reason why It isn't done is becuase Parents by children the games. So to remove any chance of offending some one, even if its the parents fault, sex will not be implimented for a vrey long time.

I dont even think movies should show sex scenes. If i wanted to actors to hump each other in ways that anyone who has had sex will no are wrong (do the angles people) i would watch a porno (also pornos are usaly hilarious). Showing peoples passion and emotion can be suggested and acted out without the humping.

I don't think so. Romance and character depth can be generated using other, more effective plot devices. The only reason for including sex otherwise.. is just for the sake of having sex in a game.
I disagree with the idea of children being deeply influenced by video games as the media tends to portray it.. but I still think developers would be crossing a line by including sex in a product so narrowly aimed at a young target audience ( a significant portion of which cannot legally have sex).

Of course I'm assuming that the inclusion of sex would be in a highly graphic sense. Even if it wasn't though, I still wouldn't suppport it simply because it has no purpose in a video game.

Also unless it deals with the storyline it shouldent be there (but it could be stretching it)
