Should the Escapist Have a "Like" Button?

Personally, I think having a like button in the forums would be great. You could sift through all the average comments in forums. There could even be badges, such as "get twenty likes on a post". People have most likely had this idea before on the escapist, but I think it should be put into action.

Thoughts?

Well...I don't know. Sometimes I find a post very funny, and being able to like it instead of just quoting them and saying "I find this post very funny but I have nothing to add to the conversation" would be nice. However, with likes come the thumb-whores. If you don't know what I mean, just look at every youtube video ever.

Oh, good heavens no.

This system is used on so many other sites, and on every one it's utter rubbish that turns most of the comments into attention-seeking rubbish.

Indeed, but "thumb-whores" only do it because it works (some times, anyway). Also, I've yet to find anyone similar on ModDB, so we could also get lucky. Anyway, if we could hide comments by down voting them, it would send a clear message that thumb-whores are not welcome here. After all, we're not YouTube.

This, for this reason.

It also discourages intelligent discussion (something the site has already been lacking lately).

The second you implement a like button, the popular opinion becomes the only voice that gets heard. Not a good thing. I think the forum runs pretty well on it's own.

Sweet Jesus no. Do you really think people will be that responsible? Go through Newgrounds sometime and then tell me if this is a good idea. The Escapist may not be LIKE Newgrounds, but it is definitely a popular and entertaining site which attracts all kinds of people, not all of them good.

Nah, then the forums will end up like youtube comments.

If you agree, thumbs up this post!
