This picture was taken recently from an American Airline flight by an American Airline employee. There is now a debate whether obese people cause a flight hazard or if they should be paying for two seat tickets.

You can read the whole story here:

I'm a skinny guy and I still think the plane seats are uncomfortable and not wide enough. One helpful solution that would benefit others would be to make the seats a little wider. It's unrealstic to make seating that small. not look @ the pic ...that...just plain wrong..

I thought it was common practice to make large people pay for two seats? It was even in Lost, right?

no. and Lost is a tv show :D..
in RL..people just don't want to pay more money than they have to.
which makes it hard for the company and the passenger next to it.

Usually they do make them pay for two seats. We dont really get people THAT large over here in the UK.

THe thing is, Its easier saying "make the seats bigger", When you compare the space of the isle, Theres no way REALLY you could make them any bigger without losing space.

Just make the fat people pay extra & fly first class, Meaning they have room for the additional flab room.

Of course they should have to pay extra if they need both seats... Also, they shouldn't be in aisle seats. If they're as big as that guy in the picture, then they're an obstruction, and a safety hazard. Not to mention an annoyance for anyone having to move past him to get to the bathrooms on the plane.

sure..there is some fat people on the plane..but this.
The New York Post has more details on this incident. According to a Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson, the passenger in question was given "a whole row to himself" to comply with safety regulations.
is just plain wrong.
and i agree with you forcing/suggesting them to buy first class tickets :D..

Uh... Wow. That... is a lot... of lovehandles.

Maybe they should just put him in with cargo? :/ Honestly, that's just impractical. What if they had an emergency landing, and he gets stuck? Then half the people behind him can't get out?

Short and simple, he's a hazard. He's blocking almost the entire walkway. There's no way that should be allowed. If you can't fit in the seat, it's time to consider an alternative.

In the picture, you can almost see that man next to him thinking "Dayum o.o"

The thing is large passengers = more weight, poor comfort for other passengers & The safety hazard noted above.

Now I think they should be forced to pay for one, If not two extra seats. They say its not fair, Implementing almost a "fat tax", But think about it this way, its just less money for you to spend on cheeseburgers, Fatty.

I agree... Not to mention that often-times, morbidly obese people smell god-awful. It's the mold between their fat flaps.

Yes, he is extremely... not just fat, but LARGE in all dimensions. Yes, he obstructs the passageway. Yes, that's

and he should have paid for two seats (how about a little discount if you buy two seats for yourself, no matter for what?).

But that's not reason for everyone to go total Nazi on him. Maybe he does not like his ridiculous weight, but couldn't drop 60 kilograms in a week when he knew he needed to fly somewhere?

Obese people will always have money for cheese/ham burgers.like smokers having even the slightest amount of money for cigarettes.
but really..goverment should enforce a law.forcing people over certain weight to buy certain number of seats..
which in return can save many lives.

In my opinion, the seat sizes on most flights are absolutely fine, and while that is an extreme case, fat people are a genuine problem on flights. I honestly think that in cases such as this, political correctness should go out the window, and we SHOULD discriminate against them. Hopefully they would actually get some motivation not to be so fucking fat.

There is a problem with this though. My next door neighbor is kinda obese but he can't help it cuz he hurt his back so he can't do any exercise. I don't think people like him should have 2 pay extra cuz it's not rly their fault.

Photographs like that make me glad I don't fly very often. Coach is bad enough when your fellow passengers aren't morbidly obese.
