Also: Rome. One of the best TV series that I've seen; the acting and writing were all fantastic, and it had terrific production values courtesy of HBO. Sadly, the ratings weren't good enough to justify the expense and it was cancelled after 2 seasons. A real shame.
What more could they have done with it though? The main character died and Augustus got control of Rome. There weren't any big political shifts until decades afterwards, so they'd have had to replace the cast anyway before anything interesting happened.
If you really want to see what happens after Augustus takes over on a TV show, try watching I, Claudius.
Also I'll agree on Firefly. In some ways I don't mind it being cancelled becsue that means there aren't any bad episodes but it would have been nice to have even 7 or 8 more just to resolve some of the loose plot threads.[/quote]
Actually the show was originally intended for a 5 season run, with the second season ending with the deaths of Cassius and Brutus at the Battle of Philippi, the third and fourth season better detailing the lives of Cleopatra and Antony as well as Octavian and the characters of Rome. The fourth was suppose to end with the Battle of Actium, and the fifth season would have introduced Jesus. However the writers were only made aware that the show was being cancelled after the second season, they tried to cram as much history as they could towards the last few episodes.
As far as show I'd like to see revived, or wish they weren't cancelled...
Undergrads. It's probably the most realistic and truthful depiction of college life and ended with the doors for the character's sophomore year wide open. As much as I'd like to see it revived, it's been 10-years and there's been so many changes in that gap that it would be really awkward. They'd either have to keep it set in 2001-2002, or find some way to explain why all the characters suddenly have iPhones and MacBooks.
