Not sound proofed, not air conditioned or even heat vented, not even a built in ice box for cold drinks...

What the heck are you paying your eight grand for again? It's a box with some shelving and (really uncomfortable looking) chair. One trip to a Home Depot and an Office Max and I could slap something like this together for far less than that.

I just love the visual image of sitting alone in your isolation booth sipping bourbon and watching The Phantom Menace!

Well, I got to say... that is a creative way of doing something that would seem a bit odd to do in the first place... Like spending 8K on a box that gives you the freedom of watching the Star Wars Prequels without feeling any sort of shame about doing something like that...

Except, replace the whole shame part with regretting to spend the money on just making what we call a "man cave"... (Same difference, I guess... I mean, this box could have been the cheaper alternative to a "man cave" for all we know...)

Coming from Japan, i assume the target audience might be otaku, i mean it would be literally shutting your self in...
Kind of odd really.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what rooms are for? You know, those things houses are divided into that have doors you can close. Do people in Japan not have those?

This is actually a decent thing to have in public places so you can talk on the phone if you need to.
Ya, if only there were some kind of booth that one could step into when they want to talk on the phone in a public area.

I think I'll just save $7,999 and erect a cardboard box contraption around my desk, as without any soundproofing it may as well be the same thing.

Although if it was sound proofed, I would expect more sex appropriate dimensions.

Mmmm, because Japan doesn't have enough social problems as it is, not exactly helping themselves out here.

Hope it has air freshener and ventilation, because god knows what it'll smell like after a month of 'use'.

Is it weird that I thought of the Suicide booths from Futurama when i saw this story? Also it would be a great torture chamber for claustrophobics. I dunno my heads in weird place today.

First thought, cool idea. I love the feeling of isolation something like this provides.

Second thought, this thing costs twice as much as my car. I could probably build a box like this myself and save a few grand. What are they making this thing out of? I'm sure there's better options for admiring your collection in private, without also marinating in your own BO.

Screw contemplating a Gundam collection, I'd just build my own pilot cockpit inside that thing.

For $8000 you could make a better isolation "booth" than what this if offering.

Just off the top of my head, I'd buy a cheap, second hand Transit Van or ex BT works van, sound proof the interior and kit it out with the same stuff this has, but with more comfort, better amenities, a power supply and ventilation, then just park it on my driveway or in my garden and if I find it's not isolated enough, I'd just drive it to a more isolated location... hell if you look at army surplus auction, you could probably find a solid beast of a vehicle to be the shell of your isolation booth for less than $8000.

You can pick this up in the MOD June sale for a lot less than $8000 and spend the rest on kitting it out to be a better isolation device than that tiny little boxed chair

If a converted vehicle isn't practical for you, for $8000 you could easily convert a cupboard or section off a corner of a room and still make a better isolation "booth" than this.

I don't know why isolation needs to be synonymous with small, cramped and lacking in features.

"Also, please note that the booth is *not soundproof*"
What the HELL is this supposed to be for? 8 grand and the ONE feature it should have is absent?!

What they don't tell you is that cases of claustrophobia will go WAY UP with this baby.

Possibly the greatest thing I've ever read. I want to buy one because of this single line in a news post.

this is just a thin metal box with a desk, a couple shelves and a lighting fixture it has no special features like air conditioning, sound proofing, a fridge, a reclinable chair or really ANYTHING that would justify anything over 500 dollars.
Like I'd say the raw components are worth... lets see 20 for the chair (That does not look like a comfortable chair), 10 for the light, 40 for the frame, 5 for the shelving, 10 for desk (tops) meaning you're paying 7015 dollars for what, assembly and design? that's ridiculous, the only good thing about this would be that it would be easy to mass produce.
There's a guy that makes little homeless houses out of trash then gives them away for free that and those are all better than this in every conceivable way.

ignoring my complaint about the absurd pricing, I think it would be really neat if they made boxes like these for students to study/do homework in during lunch at schools if they make a cheaper mass production version. They aren't to much larger than lockers if they were inset into the walls so they could make it so newer schools could offer these for students to rent at something like 30-40 dollars a schools + a couple of public ones for the odd Cram.

I've always enjoyed small spaces. They're just so cozy and private. I've always thought the idea of having a little area like a Harry Potter closet would be nice. Though I wouldn't pay more than like $400 or $500 for something like this. Otherwise I may as well just spend the money on a wardrobe, move my clothes into that, and then deck out my closet to be my isolation area.
