I was thinking of this earlier. I'd love to have a signature option for a tagline, but on the other hand, it'd probably clutter things up.

But it seems weird that anyone would even want to sign their own username at the end of a post. Since, you know, it's already marked and all.

Posting "-Zachary Amaranth" would get old.

I agree, it seems pointless and redundant when people's user names already accompany their post.

I just wonder whether people who sign their posts also sign text or instant messages... it makes sense to sign at the end of a correspondence like a letter or e-mail, but after every single discussion point, especially in a back and forth conversation, just seems excessive.

I probably only think this because I see forum posts more like a verbal conversation rather than a series of letters, which is probably why I also don't have much tolerance for bad grammar and spelling, because it seems like a drunk person talking at me with a mouth full of marbles.

Yours Stealthily,

Jamash

Wow.....someone putting their name at the end of their post annoys you? That's pretty sad. Get over it. It's just a name. Seriously how could that annoy someone. You'd have to be a pretty pissy person in general.

-Wakikifudge

PS that was just to piss you off. I've never signed my post before this.

I think it's pointless too, but it doesn't actually bother me. It's just not something that affects me, either way.

However, I do wish The Escapist would allow forum signatures here. Plenty of other forums have them, so why not here? I don't see how it's any different to allowing an avatar, and I'd love to have a cool custom self-made signature picture with my posts... :)
Apparently that was a decision made a few years ago. To disable the signature function and speed up the load time of the pages...

OT: Does it really really matter?

Erm... because sometimes I just feel like doing that for longer posts, and all of my PM's? There's nothing pretentious about me doing that. Its just what I do. :/
Agreed. It's just a choice. Are you gonna say Matt from LRR is pretentious just because he signs his posts? Or other members for that same reason? Hell no.

I've never signed my posts myself, but I see no problem with it. I just can't think of anything catchy to put there :(
Ehh. I can see why someone might think it pretentious, but really, it's just a thing that I do.

Personally, I think it might be less of a "that's pretentious" and more of a "What's the point,I don't understand!". People hate not understanding.

Which includes me, but i'm not about to make a thread about it. I'll just pull my hair out over it. Theirs enough of it.

Sooner or later someone is going to break the quote box and make the whole page look fucked up(and even if they don't, someone is going to abuse it with like putting 1 letter on each row). And even if they don't there is probably about twice as much to load each time you open a new page, slower for you and cost more for the escapist.

OT; Ye I find it silly people sign there forum posts.(Your name is right there! takes me 0.1 sec to look over to the left and see your name)

Couldn't agree more, if people wish to differentiate their posts from other peoples, do it in the actual content itself.

I don't mind people signing their posts, so long as it's not triple-sized and in bold print. I honestly don't see what's so bad about a few extra letters at the end of a post. Some people actually do it in a funny way aswell, take a look at Jack and Calumon[footnote]Fuck you Firefox, that's how it's spelled[/footnote].

That in itself is a sort of signature, a personality at the end of a post, and usually it's some funny wisecrack or some random thing. I don't mind.

Really, so long as it's not super obnoxious, I don't see why YOU would mind. But I guess I don't see the big picture.

Wait, are you saying you would actually do that? Go to all that trouble just to get someone to take a word off of their posts?

I mean, signing posts bothers me a little, but not THAT much.

So, I've been noticing this recently, and it's been bothering me - people signing their forum posts by putting their name at the end of it. It's annoying because it's completely pointless. I can already see your name, click on your user page, see everything that you want to put on this site there.

There is utterly no reason to repeat what people can already see by looking about five centimetres away from the signing. The only reason I can see for doing this is if you think you're so important that just seeing your name once isn't enough.

What do you people think about signing your posts? If it wasn't clear, I think it's a pointless, superfluous habit.

If the site actually had a signature function, it wouldn't be annoying. But it's like going out of your way to do something that the site has deliberately avoided doing.

EDIT: People seem to be reading some sort of alternate reality version of this post where I call everybody who does it stupid and pretentious. Am I in the same dimension as everybody? I just want to make sure.
Really can I have some links to post with people who sign their posts. I never see anyone do it. Maybe I am not observant but the only person who comes close to it on this forum is Jack and Calumon. Although the forum does have a signature function it is just disabled for this branch of it but it is actually in effect in the War Cry forum.

I've only seen it once on here, but I suppose it's a bit redundant. It somehow seemed more personal though, I could see a person behind the comment, and it really affirmed what they were saying, but I think that would be the minority of signature posts.

I read this as "singing yours posts" and was really thrilled. Now I'm a bit let down.
