Silent Hill 2 VS HD Collection

I was wondering which one is a better buy. I've been reading complaints that the HD collection version of SH2 is glitchy, and the atmosphere is ruined in some parts, but whether that is true or not, I can't say. The HD has better graphics, but in a horror game not being able to see what you're up against is often the point. The HD collection is easy to find, and comes with both games, but sometimes you just can't beat the original.
Which should I get?

You can never go wrong with the original . That being said , it might be a beter buy to get the HD collection just for the sake that it has three games .

Sadly it doesn't.

Just SH2 and 3.

On Topic.

I went with the HD collection and so far it's been fine. It doesn't look all that different and plays exactly the same.

Depends what platform it is for. i too have heard the PS3 version is a bit of a mess. I think it may have been patched since then. The 360 version runs fine though. but there is a BIT less fog, which ruins 2 scenes in the game. But since most of it is indoors, small potato's i say. I also think the new voices are better than the original - but thats all opinion :)

Theres only two games in the collection. SH2 and 3. No 4, which saddens me.

Still sweet though, finished 3 for the first time yesterday, was awesome :)

It does. Unless you're in Europe or buy the Greatest Hits version, the SH2 episode Restless Dreams. You could say itt's an expansion, though.

I like the new voices. I hated that they didn't go in and resynch the lips and how in cutscenes sound effects happen before they're supposed to. I like the crisper look. I have never encountered a glitch. OOverall, I personally think it's worth it. Thee SH3 voices are better, the SH2 voices are optional if you don't like them, and the graphics are easier to see.

Yeah I just bundled that in with SH2 seeing as it's part of it I didn't class it as a separate game.

So technically it has 3 but 2 are SH2.

I suppose it's similar to the Devil May Cry HD collection. That only has 2 games.

DMC 1 and 3 ..... anyone want to argue that point? :p

Just for laughs, yes. A bad game is still a game. Dante's Inferno is still, sadly, a game. DMC2 is slightly better, so I'd say it qualifies. Especially being twice the length of the others since you play through twice to get the whole story. In fact, I would say if my choices were DMC2 and Dante's Inferno, I would gladly pick up DMC2 and suffer through samey levels and awkward combat. At least I can say that DMC2 didn't utterly rape its ccharacters.

I can't imagine the HD version being as effective. The beauty of SH2 for me is the blurry, otherworldly dreamlike quality that makes most of the enemies almost implied rather than physically there. Clearer textures would sap that effect away IMO.

Seems like the majority vote goes to the HD collection. I would be running it on the PS3, so maybe I'll see if I can dig up if there has been a patch before I buy.

Thanks for the tips!

I would recommend getting the original games, easily. Somehow developers always fuck up remakes of any sort.

HD sucks. As does trying to play on a 360. Go ps2 or xbox, The PC version seems to be missing a few effects from what I've seen.

Chances are they're FAR cheaper used in their older formats.

It's like the Devil May Cry HD collection, that's 40 dollars for 2 great games, those 2 great games are 5 bucks each used on some sites vs 40. So 10 for 2 games or 40 for 2 good games and 1 awful one

HD bad looking effects with lighting and fog.

Lot's of problems on 360 but I forgot the specifics, Graphical and other glitches were certainly present.
Huh, bad disk? I had none of those problems on mine :)

I have the collection and the original. I have yet to play 2 in the collection, but based ONLY on bang for your buck, I would said get the collection. You get two games for forty bucks. Silent Hill 2 comes with two different voice acting casts--the new and the original. You also get the Silent Hill 2 'expansion', which was only available on the original X-box (I think) for the Greatest Hits version. And finally, unless you've tracked down a copy, I'm betting Silent Hill 2 might be a little hard to find, and if you do find it, is going to be a little much for a used game--brand new, forget about it. Plus, like I said, you get two games. Silent Hill 3 is not a terrible game and should be played as well.
