Just recently i unburied my PS1 from my closet, and a bunch of old games and found Silent Hill. I started playing it and beat in two nights, then I went to my Xbox and played Silent Hill 2, and got the shit scared out of me. Then i ordered the Silent Hill movie on netflix just to see if its any good, and surprisingly, for a video game based movie, it wasnt that bad!

A lot of critics gave this movie very bad reviews, and i was like, "what the hell!?". I can understand this now cause these critics never played the games and couldn't relate to them.

Like when the Lying Figures came out and the radios started to fuzz, I knew what was coming, and it was awesome.

and Pyramid Head.........nough said.

what did you think of the SIlent Hill movie?

Sure it didn't make any sense in regard to tying in with the games, but the little subplot within it I thought was very reminiscent of number 2, and the series in general.
I still to this day don't know why people slandered the Silent Hill film.
It had a decent plot, decent acting, some staple SH creatures, and it's like the only videogame film I've never walked out on.
Yes, it wasn't the same plot as the game, but it was decent enough in it's own right, IMO.
-edit- Woot! first post!.
Take that xMetatronx!

It might have been one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I even tried to get out of my own head, and just watch it on its own premises. I think it's amazingly bad. As a videogame movie it fails even more. And if you think Pyramid Head belonged in the movie, you missed the point of Pyramid Head entirely to begin with. :/

I'm sorry, but just thinking about that crapfest gives me foam around the mouth.. :/

Even if he is a troll he has a point.

Pyramid Head was supposed to be SH 2's main character's sexual lust.
I haven't seen the movie though, so I don't know if it's the same character, but I'm assuming it's not.
Silent Hill: Origins used the Butcher instead of Pyramid Head (who look a lot alike), because the character from origins is a trucker, so butcher = roadkilling.

I can't imagine the movie to be bad anyway except for a few minor details.

I thought it was quite good. I had to disengage the part of my brain that cared anything about Silent Hill canon, but as a popcorn-stuffer it was pretty good.

I mean, if you played the games, the movie gives you a certain hand-clapping "i remember those things!" sort of recognition. But I tried watching it as a movie, not as a reference, and I've got to say, I wound up agreeing with the critical consensus.

First of all, no; it's not the worst videogame movie ever made. Having said that, we need to remember that the bar is still set very, very low. I was a little intrigued by how they sort of amalgamated elements of the first three games into the script, but ultimately it feels hodgepodged.

Alright, every point I'm about to make has already been addressed by Yahtzee before, so I am aware of that, but why were the faceless cleavage nurses there? Why Pyramid Head? Silent Hill 2 had these things because of the psychological metaphoric significance to James Sunderland, not just "'cuz they're scary."

Anyway, Sean Bean's side plot was completely throwaway; his little investigation ends up going nowhere and his venture into the town serves as nothing more than an expository romp that, frankly, would have lended more creepiness to the film had they omitted it.

I don't know; I guess I just didn't like Silent Hill very much as a movie. It is decent for a cheap date-scare, but it certainly wasn't the good film it could have been.

I liked it, not having played Silent Hill myself. It was really cool.. But the story? Way too weird for my comprehension. Why the hell was the lady and her daughter trapped in a mist even when they got home?

Then how do you account for people like me, who has played the games, and still thought it was a bad movie?

I thought it was pretty good! Visually, the film had everything a good Silent Hill has: creepy monsters, funky camera angels, atmosphere, etc. It's a shame that that the story was streamlined a bit for mainstream audiences, but I'm sure you'd have a lot of angry theatergoers if Gans tried to pull off one of the bad endings from Silent Hill 1.

The only thing I didn't care much for, apart from the so-so dialog, was the extended sequence of Cheryl explaining everything.

Ahem.. How the hell did you get that out of my post?
(I'm amused how two people so far has said HE about me, btw. ^_^)

Anyway. I did watch it with my dad sometime after it came out, and while I, as a huge Silent Hill fan was still shocked after seing the movie in cinemas the first time around, really did try to enjoy it on its own premises. My dad has played Silent Hill a lot as well, and knows some about it. For starters, he knows how much they screwed up the whole story, considering that it was supposed to be an adaption, not a tribute? We both got a laugh out of it, because it was.. well, that bad. Like, those screaming bugs? Thankfully, that's one of the only details I remember. I tried very hard to repress the memories linked to this movie, because it bothered me so much. All I remember was, that it pretty much just pissed all over the great story of Silent Hill, and made a pretty big fool of itself, mainly just ending up as another easily forgotten B-movie.

I enjoyed it, thought it was really good.

However, I won't watch it again because I found
the female cop's death scene
too disturbing.

In case you forgot:
hung over a fire and slowly agonisingly burned to death in graphic detail

I think the movie is the litmus test of the fandom;
Fans who dislike the movie actually love the series. Fans who like the movie just generally like "fucked up shit."
Same with Origins and Homecoming. 4 was cool, though.

Aye, I'd say it would be pretty damn obvious that I'm a girl. :( I'm sad now lol.
But yeah, guess you're right. Apparently you need to make it clear that your opinion is your opinion, I went and saw it with friends that loved it, some even SH fans themselves, I'm still friends with those people, so it's not that big a deal to me, as long as I don't have to see it again.

It did a good job but they couldn't capture the feelings you get playing the games e.g. Pyramid Head when I seen him for the first time just standing behind the gate looking I was freaked thinking he will be running through that any minute now but nothing it was brilliant. But in the film he is just a typical monster shows up kills and leaves like it's a 9 to 5 job either that or he got lost on his way to the storyline he made sense in and decided ah sure the hell with this
