Rare form on the comments today, Gavin. As has been said, the "darker and edgier" comments were spot on.

Instead, you should make your music bloodier and sexier, like a subscription cable reboot of a network show. What could go wrong?

Anyway, I didn't really care for "Shadows", but then, that was simply personal taste, not critique. I loved "Silver and Steel", however. It's one that got looped multiple times so I could rock out. Just because it's folk, doesn't mean it can't be metal. Someone already mentioned Falconer, so I'll just refer to that.

Keep up the good work!

"I'm surprised at how many comments are criticizing the slow, contemplative nature of the song, saying it should have been more violent and big ... I guess it's a common complaint with your music, people not understanding why your song is like that when all they did in the game was kill people, but I still just wish people didn't regard games with such shallowness as to ignore the thematic elements around which you build your songs."
I have two words that agree completely with this statement; Wasteland Soul

You need to try and answer more varied questions and comments in these segments. I mean, for the Witcher, you basically said that you don't like people wanting something to be "dark and gritty" 3 times, just different people and different wordings for the questions and answers.

I love your comment on dark vs realistic. I think you can definitely have a story in which depraved, violent and even gruesome things happen, but it all feels redundant because it doesn't serve any purpose. Then you get your stories in which you get characters, countries and an entire world which feels well constructed - you have the characters who are good people, and you have the brutal psychotic killers. It's all about balance, and I thought Witcher 2 did a great job in that regard.

I was one of the people who complained about the vocals of Shadows in the Moonlight, and I'm sorry I wasn't more praising in my original comment, because I LOVE THIS SONG. I don't know what it is, but the first listen was ok, and the 2nd listen was incredible. Now, I don't the vocals are that bad, or that much of a problem at all. It's a great song, and I hope you carry on.

Silver and Steel was awesome and couldn't have fitted the reveling aesthetic of the game any better, don't let anyone tell you any different.

The only one I can really remember that didn't match the game was "Mind of the Bat", but you MORE than made up for it with "Joker's Song" and your Assassin's Creed songs are always spot on.
Haha, i find that really funny as even though mind of the bat "didnt fit the game"(disagree) it was my favorite for a long time.

OT: I feel that between "Shadows in the Moonlight" and "Silver and Steel" you nailed both of them in an unexpected way Gavin. People wanted action from AC but you gave them the beuty and serinity of it. While in my opinion you suplemented that action in "Silver and Steel", the whole song made me want to just get up and go challenge a friend to a sword fight. It sounded very sharp and distinctly showed the direction of the character's thoughts.
-I must say i dislike the term action though, i feel that when it's said people really mean "something that makes me want to take action".-

Becasue of Gavin, Shadows became calming and spirit lifting while Silver Steel pointed us into action. :)

I was surprised that you view Geralt in such a way (if it is from game, then ok, haven't played it, dunno), but for me he is a dark character. I mean, he is weird even by witcher standarts (if going by the books) and it's mostly neutral in actions (again by the books). But that song is still awesome.

Also, Shadows in the moonlight is the second positive thing about AC/Ezio series, the first being original music.

Well... that was pretty much the only negative feedback I got on that song. You want me to answer a different criticism, feel free to go find one for me.

I was worried that this was going to be another column of "Boy, you fuckers are stupid, so let me snark right back at you and show you what a smart, successful man I am!" That was my biggest problem with Encore, but I'm glad to see that this one has gone back to the reason that we're all here - i.e., the music.
Encore was never what you just described - it takes both the good and bad criticism on board, quite often even agreeing with them.

I really liked Silver and Steel, because I loved just hanging out in the taverns and brothels, so cheery and fun!

I never really have much interest in sex in games. I prefer it in real life.
And on that bombshell...

Gavin, I would have sex with you in a game or in real life. And I don't even like guys.

No offense but I'm surprised you think your opinion of a character is more accurate when he has played the game and you have not.
Then again, I read the books that the character is based on ;) I don't think that my opinion is more accurate, it's just my view differs because of the source material I am familiar with.

I can't stop singing 'Silver and Steel'. I've been whistling it all day, and started singing the chorus in the queue at the supermarket before I realised what I was doing and snapped out of it. Funny looks doesn't even begin to cover what I was getting from people. You are entirely to blame!

The chorus is absolutely incredible though.

Ha, good to hear :D It happened to my girlfriend a few times too. She always seems to hum 'Mining All Day Long' walking down the street and get funny looks

can't wait to read the next Encore Gav, I love the way you take criticisms in that the intelligent ones are taken to heart and the agnsty childish ones are essentially told to fuck off :)

Also final line sums this up very well ;)
"Because sex is just sex. You see sex everywhere. It's not a part of the story I found particularly interesting or inspiring or unique. I never really have much interest in sex in games. I prefer it in real life."
