Don't know what to tell you. At first I thought Idle might be ill, or something like that, but he's going to be part of the London reunion. IMDB confirms that, at least for now, Idle's not on the cast list. Prior commitment, maybe?

Idle cut the others out of the money from spamalot and they basically hate his guts. While we are on the subject, Jones and Gilliam always fight over who gets to direct and they all think that Clesse is high handed and arrogant. Hence the long gap between working together.

They lost a legal battle with one of the producers on holy grail and face a bill of several million. Idle has to pay of this bill but is sitting pretty with his spamalot cash. The most of the others need a payday on top that. Clesse got cleaned out by his 3rd blond American ex wife. Jones has just had another baby with his 40 years younger 2nd wife. I guess that Gilliam needs the cash for a film project because he hasn't had a hit in years. As to Palin, no idea beyond the fact that a million always comes in handy.

While I don't know a lot about the specific reasons behind it, Michael Palin did say in an interview that Eric Idle didn't participate in A Liar's Autobiography (A bizarre animated... thing of some description... that sort-of contained Graham Chapman's life story) because "he's pissed at us." So yeah, there's animosity between Idle and the other Pythons.

Damn shame that The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus wasn't more successful, I thought it was pretty damn good. A bit pretentious, maybe, and the scene with the little kid and the DS made me want to punch things, but overall enjoyable.

To seriously comment on the Python Troupe woes and personality clashes, think about this... you've worked together for years and years, like being roomates, you tend to learn everything about the people you're around including the less-than-stellar aspects of their personalities. Business and friendship aren't things that go hand in hand. It is amazing they lasted so long in the original series and movies, because I'd figure they'd have been at each other's throats by the end (which is highly probable). I also get the sense that Graham Chapman was the anchor, the diplomat that kept them all from killing each other and with his death (and a sad thing that was) the animosity more or less broke up the troupe. Still for all the conflict they did produce some excellent material. I have faith they will produce a stellar comedy and grace us with laughter so great we might have to bring an extra pair of trousers.

Jones gave an interview when he was plugging a book earlier this year in which he said "We are all rather pissed off at Eric". Idle had given another interview before, when he called the others "Ungrateful bastards" and ranted about money. As to the others, its difficult to give precise sources for things. I first watched python in 1989 on a BBC rerun and things have leaked out over the years. The fundamental point is that when you are working for living you have to tolerate other people in way that you don't when you have £10 million in the bank. Things that you would keep quiet about for the sake of putting food on the table you can say and that inevitably leads to clashes. Now most of them are under financial pressure for one reason or another, they have a reason to keep their mouths closed and live with the worst aspects of the others.
