So my internet capabilities have been downgraded owning to overuse (As you do) and seeing how this is one of the main sites I Browse, if I could lower the amount of Data loading and refreshing the website took, it'd be a LOT of help.

I was wondering if there was a way to access a less advanced version of the website (Akin to a Version designed for Mobiles and Handhelds).
I'm also going to be asking the Tech Team, but you lot might know something I don't anyway so at the very least, I'll learn SOMETHING :)

Do you happen to know how bad your internet usage is due to the Escapist? The page footprint is rather large - some pages are over a meg or two big, however, you shouldn't be downloading a meg on each page refresh - your browser should already be cacheing a lot of the information. I suppose what could bring the page size down is removing the ads - so PubClub. Actually, now that I checked it, PubClub also has a mobile version of the website, so that should be more steamlined and smaller.

Other than that...well, you could turn off images, I suppose. Not sure how much that would help but you wouldn't download as much stuff if you go into a image heavy thread (with images not in spoiler tags) - some images are rather large, too and people might embed them directly which would cause you to d/l the image as soon as you open the thread. I dunno, there might be an addon that would let you download resources upon request - I know Opera Mobile does something similar with Flash - it puts a placeholder and you have to click it to load the Flash content. Though it might be like more of an inconvenience than help.

The final thing I can think of is setting up a caching proxy. Though that would would need to have another machine and unlimited connection to it (say, through LAN or something) - you'd then connect to it and thus connect to the web, but the proxy would cache resources, so upon repeat request you'd get them from the proxy rather than downloading them again. But I don't think you'd get that much of a boost, as your browser does the same thing already and you are a single person (I assume?) - caching proxies are more of a benefit for multiple people - organisations and so on, then when person A goes and visits www.website.com and person B later goes to the same URL, B would be given a cached copy and won't need to download everything. But for a single person...dunno, probably won't be much help. As I said, it's what your browser does. Unless you like clearing the browsing data regularly.

So what you are suggesting is:
-Pub Club
-Turning off Images
-Caching Proxy

Not really great options are they :/
Thanks for the input, I'll leave the thread open for a second opinon

Yeah. Also rated in order of effectiveness. Thought the "turn off images" one could be an addon that does selevtive turning off and on of external resources. Or something Not sure if there is one that is really convenient to use, though.

If you are really desperate, you can try a text-only browser. That should mostly download text but not other stuff like JavaScript, CSS, images and so on. Not sure you'd want to, though.

No, not really. I'd hazard a guess that only the Pub Club membership would give you any benefits that might be noticed...even then it won't be really that much. Well, unless you use the mobile site, which might be a bit better.

There isn't really any way you could download less website without cutting something out. Disable the images and maybe flash...other than that there aren't many options.

Opera has a feature that "simplifies" websites called turbo mode, its mobile version even promises 90% less data usage. I haven't used it but I think it's worth a try.
