Wait so there's only half a game and about a week til release?

Talk about releasing unfinished games...
Corporate talk to make people not download the game.

In the end the big difference will be bugs and some chair models.
Not the chair models! Noooo!

Yes the chair models!!

One of them is the fabled comfy chair from the Monty Python "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Sketch!

So no chairs for you pirates!

Pre-final version :D

That likely means that this is what they're saying: it really is a unfinished version of the game that someone has uploaded for kicks. It's likely the way that the game was about halfway through development.

Once again, all the arguments about morality and ethics and freedom of information and supporting only good games fall apart in the face of "I want free shit". Well good fucking job, Internet, you've done it again.

Piracy is stealing stuff from other ships.

This is file sharing.

File sharing others intellectual property is just simple theft. If only more people started thinking about this as a crime.

If i break into your house, and build a copy of your TV, would i be stealing it? And what would you loose?

I've forgiven EA for the utterly ridiculous DRM issues they've had in the past. But I must admit, it does still put a smile on my face to see them bent over like this...

If I broke into J.K. Rawlings house and made a copy of HP7 before it came out and put it on the internet, what would she have lost? If you create a book or a game you have the right to decide how it gets distributed.

That half the world they are talking about is 'Riverview', the new neighborhood you can download when you register the game. This can't be found in the retail version of the game so EA isn't really telling the truth.

For me this was the very first time I pirated a game. The game works great, has plenty of items and isn't buggy at all (except that one bug I've had with the grim reaper) unlike what EA wants us to believe. If they hadn't delayed the game in February for marketing reasons, I could have resisted. Still, I think EA has done a great job and I will still pick up a copy of the game when it comes out to support them.

If you're playing a pirated copy, you get a pop-up saying something along the lines of "You pirated this you naughty person, but if you now buy the full game you get all this as well" While I doubt it was leaked on purpose, EA adding extra content to the final release (on disc or a 0 day patch linked to your CD key) is a great way for companies to give insentives and rewards to people who buy it rather then try and stop the pirates doing what some would see as inevitable.

Its J.K. Rowling. Also better analogy than the TV one...Which is a bad analogy...

I'd probably punch that person. Why? I just paid a crap-ton of money for that TV, and now you can just waltz in here and get it for free? The same thing applies to file sharing. I bought a product, but people can just get it for free? I call theft on that.

First off, you shouldn't be breaking into people's houses, as it makes you a major asshole and represents a gross invasion of privacy. Second of all, your analogy fails because in this case the problem is that intellectual property is being infringed upon, not any physical product. Games and similar are distributed on discs, but what you're getting is all computer code, and that code can be transmitted electronically just fine as well. Games piracy is taking the game and providing it for free, without permission. You can argue semantics all you want but in the end if people can get it for the low, low price of zero dollars, most aren't going to think beyond clicking "download". Not surprisingly, that usually means a lost sale.

It's not hard to figure out, and your rationalising does not make it anymore justifiable at a base level. Arguments like "piracy promotes future sales, strengthens communities, allows spreading of word of mouth opinions", etc. all don't matter if nobody's buying the software. What, do you seriously think that ten people per every one pirate are buying games, even though it's no secret that you can download them for free (there's that word again, it's important) and with almost no effort?

ive seen someone play the torrented version and it seems slow and incomplete so i think they will still get significant sales, im looking forward to this game.
the torrenting debate is a hard one, i think its hard to say whther parts are wrong or right, its black or whhite, you either think its ok entirely or not ok at all

If popularity was based solely on how much a game was pirated,
Solely? You act like it's even factored in...

But according to EA, there's still plenty of incentive for people who downloaded it to pick up a legitimate copy, "The pirated version is a buggy, pre-final build of the game," said EA's Director of Corporate Communications Holly Rockwood. "It's not the full game. Half the world - an entire city - is missing from the pirated copy."
Yeah, right. Both the full version and the incomplete version have been released. The incomplete version has more downloads so far, for whatever reason - possibly, not everyone realized it was incomplete. But they're both being downloaded fairly quickly. Which is a good sign for the games sales. Looks like it will sell very well, just like every other Sims game.

Well I guess this is a good indicator that it will sell well. If so many tech savy people people will go and download it then just think of the amount of causal gamers and honest gamers who will go out in droves to buy it.
Yeah, that's exactly what I thought.

I'll be picking up a copy myself on 5th as I have always loved this game
