(If this has been done before, I am truly sorry.)

Ok, I've never played ANY of the Sims games, and I heard they're really good.

I love being creative and making my own things, and Sims is for it. But is Sims 3 worth the money?

Thanks!

If you have never played any Sims game it might be best to try pick up a cheaper old copy, get an idea of it
I don't have the money or PC to be interested in the Sims 3 so I don't know how different the core gameplay is, but I can't imagine it would be too much

I saw the Gametrailers review yesterday and I was prepared to hate it but.. It actually looks pretty good! They appear to really have changed the game again, in a positive way.

Well I haven't played the Sims 3 yet, but 2 was and is great, if you like designing little houses and people and guiding them through their little lives, which I do.
If you've never played any of them, I suggest finding a copy of Sims 2, as it will be cheaper and alow you to get a taste of it and decide whether it's for you.

Sims 1 + 2 were really repetitive and got boring after a while, but there's just something pleasing about controlling a family that you designed and trying to keep them alive (and employed) against an endless stream of random events and really short days.

They should be addressing the repetitivity (I just made that word up, didn't I?) of the game in Sims 3 though.

EDIT: Also, there is no objective, and that's the main reason you get bored. If you have something to aim for that you haven't set yourself a game becomes much more fun.

Sims 3 is basically the same as Sims 2 just with less loading. But if your new to the series give it a go, it should last a while.

It depends how much you like sitcoms, this game plays like a sitcom that you control. You control the family, you control promotions, you control what they do and when they do it. I personally hate the way it handles job promotions, having to have an arbitrary number of friends is annoying. But it is pretty interesting in that you can play through any number of generations you want as your family 'evolves'.

TLDR It's a pretty fun game for a while, then you either grow to love it because you like sandbox games where nothing really happens, or you hate it because it gets repetitive really fast.

Ive been playing it for teh past 5 days.
Personally i like it, alot of effort on the towns you play, character development and i espcially like the working side lol, suprisingly :/

(atm im a neurosurgeon, which is like a tier 8ish job, 232$ an hour xD)

theres alot of content for housing and such but you can really tell they held back alot of stuff for you to buy off the EA store :(

Its all pretty standard furny tbh.

my guys a gamer.... writer.. hacker... doctor...and potentialy a sick guitarist sometime in the near future :] its like molding myself lol all over again.

The version is illegal yes... but ive had no problems.. and the "half finished" bs that they said wasnt true, all its missing is a town.. but u get a good town to play in anyway so your not missing much, all the content is there.

Ive had no problems, crashes or gameplay issues. runs smoothly and this pc is pretty old now.

My friends on 64bit vista have had crashing issues tho but they aparantly are going to buy the proper game because they liked it so much..

Hope ive helped your view of sims 3

As he said the game is bloody easy and the only thing you can do after you make super mc-do-everything is to make another one and start over. Repeat until you are bored then set the house on fire, delete the doors and throw the game in your cupboard.

Go out and get a girlfriend/boyfriend, experimenting with his/her needs is far more entertaining.

Yeah, only takes like a couple hours to be the best doctor in the entire world, even faster if the character is solo and you can fly through all the boring stuff. XD

Simulated realism my friends, simulated realism.

I'm playing it on the Mac right now. It has changed a lot of the annoying gameplay features that were present in the earlier games. However, it's still a lot of micromanagement of bladder meters (seriously, these guys have to go ALL the time) and the daily grind of building towards better relationships, jobs, skills, etc. There's more obvious rewards for grinding up your skills and relationships this time.

The best part is the character creation. The earlier Sims were rather limited, but this game has sliders for nearly everything (including muscle tone and body build, which weren't available before). Also, the neighborhood ages and grows as you play. Your neighbors/friends/old family will grow old, have babies, and die.

I would recommend it. It doesn't require a monster of a machine, just a dual processor, 2 GB RAM and a card that has pixelshader and 128 display memory.

Maybe, I haven't played it, but the way you simulate a whole community looks really cool.
