Whatever.. I've been with the sims since number 1 and 3 is a fun little game. It runs way better then 2, slight graphic upgrades, the open town is pretty cool, and the AI is massively improved. Alot of the tiny trivial things have been removed and the sim creations is WHOA. The game launch menu/homepage is vastly improved, loading times are much shorter if none at all considering it's an entire town. The new personality traits are wicked. SO don't hate bitches but this is the best sims game to date.

Aside form the fact that the new sims "look" resembles that of a living mannequin. kinda creepy.

I haven't played the Sims in years, so I got the Sims 3.
It's got a little more detail than the original, slightly better graphics, and good God, you finally get cars.

If you've got the Sims 2, it's not worth getting, I guess. It's still fun to play.

*shrug* I've heard it's pretty good, and I'll definitely buy it when the price drops a bit.

But by all means, you guys continue getting ridiculously angry about a game no one's forcing you to play.

They talk about it there.
I fell asleep like two and a half minutes into that movie. The dude's just playing dress up with a customizable doll.

I played The Sims 3 and loved it. You've got so much freedom to craft your own story now that it's uncanny.

The Sims always catered to several types of gamers: The Torturer, the Storyteller, the Builder, the Collector, the Min-Maxer and the Sim Creator. All of them have new toys now.
The Torture can now make their Sim a cowardly klutz who is afraid of going outside, for instance.
The Storyteller gets a built-in video editor, the ability to move the camera all over the city without loading, and much more freedom in their Sims' actions (your needs are easier to fulfill, giving you more time to do what you want
The Builder can go crazy creating styles and placing stuff at ANY ANGLE he wants.
The Creator has one of the most robust character creators in history, and the personality traits are much better than the sliders from earlier titles. Also some nice little touches, like your Sim's personality affecting what he or she paints (lonely Sims never paint people, for instance)
The Collector can... collect more stuff. Fish, recipes, songs, paintings, rocks, gems, anything you want, and there's an incentive for collecting each.
The Min-Maxer (or the guy who "games" The Sims)... well, it's the same as before, but easier and yet more rewarding.

Okay, to me, this game looks EXACTLY like Sims 2. The graphics aren't that good, and really when it comes down to it you're just going to be paying for 10 more expansions again. The big thing this time around is that you can give your Sim a personality....wow, really? That's it? That's your justification of another $40? Thanks EA.
If that's all you think the game is about, you definitely have never played a Sims game.

EA has gone through and upgraded/changed nearly EVERY feature of the game, including FAR more accurate simulations and open environments.

This. I recently bought the Sims 3 and have enjoyed it a lot.

Plus it removed the ridiculous load times from the Sims 2.

Haha I remember playing the original Sims when it first came out. I'd put like 8 sims in a little pen and starve them. They'd sleep on their own urine. This brought me entertainment. Fml.

Ah, yes, I forgot about the loading times. Not only are they extremly short, there are only 2 in the entire game: one when you run the game, and one when you load the neighborhood. After that it's all smooth sailing.

It doesn't change the fact that eventually the game devolves into a boring time waster.

The thing that annoys me about Sims 3 is that it was over-hyped/unfairly-advertised.
It's still a 'relatively-good' game, but it isn't at all where it should've been.
The game basically has tons of 'empty areas' that SCREAMS -expansion packs!- Hell, the Sims 2 + all its eps is debatably more fun b/c of its content longevity/replay-value.

If you haven't noticed Maxis have released the same game 30 times now

(The Sims, The Sims: Livin' Large, The Sims: House Party, The Sims: Hot Date, The Sims: Vacation, The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims: Superstar, The Sims: Makin' Magic, The Sims 2, Holiday Party Pack, Family Fun Stuff, Glamour Life Stuff, Happy Holiday Stuff, Celebration! Stuff, H&M Fashion Stuff, Teen Style Stuff, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff, IKEA Home Stuff, Mansion & Garden Stuff, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage/World Adventure, FreeTime, Apartment Life, The Sims 3)

Does it really sound suprising when you consider they are owned by EA?

Well the sims has always been good for sadistic people to live out their strangest fantasies. My friend used to make his sim swim all day and night until it peed itself on the side of the pool and fell asleep in its own wee, he subsequently boxed him in, got rid of all the doors and set fire to the house...is that worth forty dollars?
No... But killing your sims is the only enjoyment I have ever got out of any of the games. It's a good concept/idea but to be honest it failed miserably the first 2 (not including expansion packs because there are just way to many) releases failed to keep me interested for more than half an hour (at best) I dont think the third will be any differant wether the sims are able to go outside or not.

And as for the whole personality thing... the sim creation thing takes long enough as it is when your trying to decide which out of the shitty outfits looks the shittiest and trying to decide wether your character is to be "outgoing" or "playful" unless your boring and make it balanced.

I could go on and on about the sims and why i dont like it but i think ill stop there.

Which, of course is only your opinion. Important life lesson: Add the words "I think..." before broad statements like that to make them valid to yourself, because you sure as shit don't speak for everybody.

Example:

"I THINK that Sims 3 is a boring waste of time."

Can't argue with that, can I?

You could say that about ANY game.
