Sin City: A Dame to Kill For Trailer Goes Back to the Future

Sequel to 2005 cult-classic takes place before, after and during the original

Enough time has passed since Robert Rodriguez's adaptation of Sin City consigned movie theater employees across the world to a frustrating weekend of repeating the phrase "Yes, the whole thing really is in black and white" that you'd be forgiven for thinking A Dame to Kill For is actually a remake. But no - it's a sequel. And a prequel. And an in-between-quel.

Once again based on the notorious graphic novel series from comics legend/crazy-person Frank Miller, Dame will feature four individual noir-style stories set in a fictional crime-ridden city and told out of (chronological order). Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Alba are reprising their roles from the original, while Eva Green (recently of 300: Rise of an Empire [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/8871-300-Rise-of-an-Empire], another Miller adaptation) is the titular "Dame." Josh Brolin will play the younger, pre-plastic-surgery version of Clive Owen's "Dwight," while Dennis Haysbert replaces the late Michael Clarke Duncan as "Manute."

While Frank Miller is credited as a co-director, the screenplay was adapted by William Monahan. Two of the stories (A Dame to Kill For and Just Another Saturday Night) are taken from the books, while two others (The Long Bad Night and The Fat Loss) are original stories also by Miller. Dame is set several years earlier than the previous film, while Saturday Night takes place during the events of That Yellow Bastard. Additionally, The Fat Loss is a direct sequel to Bastard, with Alba's Nancy Callahan returning to wage vigilante war on the remnants of the powerful Rourke Family.

The film is due for release August 22nd.

Is it just me or does that trailer look almost like a game rather than a movie? It looks like it would be a good game if it could be made into a game too, I am not knocking the art style though and I understand that its trying to capture the feel of its source material.

If I remember correctly about the Sin City graphic novel that it is several shorts within the city which character appear in and out of them even if they're dead (no realy timeline in the book)?

Either way thank for reminding me since I forgot that it was out this year and it better still be an 18!

I Miss Brittany Murphy. She was Awesome, man. Plus Michael Clarke. Damn this trailer makes me miss people! Plus Does anyone else think Eva green is terrible? She was god awful in 300: ROAE. Well the film too but she made me hate it even more.

Have you watched Penny Dreadful at all? Eva Green is mind bogglingly good in that.

It's been a long time since I was hyped for a film like I am for this. Seriously cannot wait!

Looks pretty good from the trailer too. And I'll get to drool over Jessica Alba and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in equal measures. Roll on August.

I've been think about mortality a lot lately as well. Add Bernie Mack and Paul Walker to the 2 names that you mentioned and I think "man! Even the rich and famous can't cheat death."

I hated Eva in Casino Royale, but I loved her and her character in Rise Of An Empire. Speaking of Rise of An Empire:

it's a sequel. And a prequel. And an in-between-quel.
So, pretty much Rise of an Empire then?

I think that should be Roark, not to be confused with Mickey Rourke.

Powers Boothe's character in the first movie was Senator Roark.
Just checked IMDB, and you're correct. It's spelled "Roark" for both movies.

I don't mean to demean sadness and tragedy of death by saying this, and I know it sounds selfish as hell, but I'd have loved for Michael Clarke Duncan to have still been alive in order to see him duke it out with Marv.
