For about... 2 months now, certain pages on the escapist have randomly decided to slow my browser (firefox) down immensely. A few seconds to a couple minutes after opening the page, it'll get so bad that there's a multi-second delay when trying to scroll or switch tabs or type. For instance, right now. I'm watching the letters I type appear one-per-second, a full sentence behind the keys I'm pressing (so I've switched to notepad). Videos I try to watch will play the audio track in real time but only update the frame every 10 seconds or so, so every video turns into an extremely slow slide show. To counteract this, I quickly grab the embed code for videos and watch independently. I open task manager and firefox is suddenly consuming 10x as much processing power as it normally does. It's not every page that does this, but it happens to every type of page. Videos, articles, comics, forum threads. For forum threads the rate is pretty low, maybe 1 in 10. For videos it's closer to 1 in 4. Closing the tab and going back to the page doesn't help, but if I come back later in the day the page will work fine. This leads me to believe that it may be ad-related. I've never experienced any problems like this on other websites, and as I said it only started happening a couple months ago.

Disabling my extensions doesn't help, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem in Internet Explorer. Is anyone else having this problem? Anyone have any ideas?

Have you updated Firefox and Flash?

Also, since you're using Firefox, it could be an addon causing the problems. You'd have to disable them one by one to find which one though...
