I recently listened to the remix of Kirby's Super Ska Buffet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYZQIUwezg8 and I decided the above title. Does anyone know any particular ska bands I should listen to?

These guys are amazing! They just did the cantina in Mos Eisley, and boy oh boy, check 'em out 'fore they sell out!

Not sure what contributes to something being Ska, I'm no music expert, but I think Streetlight Manifesto fit the bill.

Skank!

Also what you posted sounds more like Ska Punk (which I actually prefer)

All I have is this nifty little ska soundtrack from a pretty awesome movie.

There's a bunch for you. The Skatalites are more original ska -- American Jazz tunes performed in a Caribbean style -- but are still quite fun to listen to. All the others are more modern ska punk stuff.

Some people also like to mention The King Blues [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs8ZSlJO34Q] but I don't really think of them as ska myself.

Five Irony Frenzy is a great one! And I recommend Reel Big Fish and the Aquabats

Somebody posted that a while back as part of a happy thread, and it's freakin' awesome.

Generally, ska isn't something I go looking for, but it's pretty good.

Is there still a strong Ska scene anywhere? It kind of faded out around these parts in like 2006.

I love ska as well a lot of the bands I like have already been mentioned except:

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Less than Jake

Reel big fish

Goldfinger

Also I really recomend checking out Skazini since they are obscure to begin with.

Course Streetlight is Ska one of the best Ska bands out there in my opinion. Only they could make a song so happy about a murder suicide.

Well I don't know many Ska bands outside the ones already mentioned so I throw a recommendation in for Camper Van Beethoven, who did some Ska influenced stuff on their first album.

Ska is NOT my thing, but this is the only song by them I like... because it was written about me. ~grins~

Oh my that was awesome! *favourites*

I really enjoy Ska, most of what I listen to has been mentioned, but you could add in common favourites such as...

Madness, Toots & the Maytals, Bad Manners, The Selecter, Gold Finger, The Planet Smasgers, Mad Caddies. Bit of everything from all the waves.

Take this and start on your journey through the world of ska.

Let me know when you get to the Mad Caddies.

Reel Big Fish and Mighty Mighty Bosstones are the ones who got me into Ska.
