Skipping class, probably in big trouble

So i'm a senior in college, and I have basically always skipped a large number of classes. This semester I am taking (plus a few other courses) a business math class. The syllabus states that a student may miss 6 classes before losing 1 letter grade per absence.

I skipped 5 classes, and then stopped skipping near the beginning of the year. I was then sick this week and missed two more classes. Now I had emailed the instructor prior to missing those classes letting him know I was sick at home with the flu. He said he would not count those absences and that it was no big deal.

So today I fixed my broken phone, and I realize I have a message on it from my professor, from 2 weeks ago or so. The message says that I have been missing a lot of classes and was asking me if I was planning on dropping sine I have missed so many classes my letter grade was going to be effected.

So naturally I emailed my professor explaining to him that A I haven't missed 6 classes, B I don't want to drop the course as I am getting an A in it atm. He emailed me back saying he gave me that call like 2 weeks ago, and nothing else.

So I emailed him back saying I wasn't at 6, and wondering why he wouldn't have emailed me or simply brought this up with me in class. After all I have been going to this class daily for two weeks now, why wouldn't be say something to me if he thought I had no way of passing the class?

TL:DR If I miss 6 classes I fail, i'm at five but the professor says i'm at six. Is there anything I can do or will I have to drop the class?

Depends on what kind of school you're in.
If you're in some big public university, you're probably outta luck.
If you're at a school like my undergraduate, you explain your situation, that you're willing to work hard to make up for this problem, and try to stay on their good side for the rest of the semister. I was once struggling terribly in a class, but went to the professor for help and managed to get a +B in it and won an award for the paper I wrote for it! :D

Of course, in my undergraduate, it was usually 2-3 classes before they began to deduct grades, so things are prolly pretty different for you.

If you are, as you claim, getting an A in that class, it's unlikely that you'll be docked points if you contend the point, seeing as how higher grades for students translates into good news for lecturers when their performance reviews come up.
