So I picked up SG off Steam yesterday (I know I'm late to the party) and I've been playing it for a while, and it feels amazing. Played the tutorials to get the basic feel of the combat, and I think I've also got the basic jist of Filias ground combos, air still needs work.

But this isn't about me, I want to know your opinions on the game, what character you play, your critisism, your everything.

I'm also looking for people to play with because the online multiplayer seems a bit deserted at times.
So if you're interested in dunking this scrub you can add me on Steam, my username is NOT THE SAME here as it is on Steam EDIT: No, no it isn't, it's KyberMies. Sorry about that

Sign me up. I've mostly gone over to King of Fighters 13, but I definitely need to play something easier once in a while to blow off steam that I build up getting my ass kicked at that. Mostly main Filia solo, and she's probably the easiest to start with because she's basically Ryu. Once you get the hang of the basics with her, then you can move on to someone more complex, though you don't have to because Filia's still pretty good.

Kyber from Estonia, right? Netcode's great, so there's no need to worry about lag. Just go with the recommended GGPO setting.

Yeah I quite like Skullgirls I bought it when it first came out on PS3 and then stopped playing after a few weeks because Valentine was the only character I really enjoyed playing as and I got tired of mirror matches tbh.

I have recently picked it back up on Steam because Squigly is on it and I really like that character so now I have 2 characters I really like and the third team member will be Eliza when she comes out I dont know if there will be much synergy but I dont care winning means less to me than playing with characters I like.

I dont get much time to practice though and so suck pretty bad I think I have managed to play about 3 hours in 2 weeks so it pretty poor going but other things take priority sadly.

I do think it is game thats great fun to play and the combo system feels very free allowing you to experiment. At the moment I am just trying to get down Squiglys seria cancels and Valentines air dash cancels as it improves their game a lot. I am also still transitioning from pad to Stick/Hitbox (havent decided which yet) so thats an added challenge.

Oh I do like some of the opening and closing lines from some of the combatants and the way the characters animate is some of the best I have seen in a fighting game they really did a good job on each one even though there isnt that many yet.

Also free DLC thanks to the indiegogo campaign which is the kinda DLC I can get behind.

Fool! You fell right into his trap! ;P

Anyway, the game seems very nice and I'll buy it when it's on a sale. If you don't mind, I'll add you too, so I'll have someone to play it with when I buy it.

Damn! There are a lot of Kybers out there. Any other way of identifying you? Profile pic or something?
There's a kybersplicer from south Finland. Is that you, or are you just "Kyber"?

EDIT: Dang it! I can't delete this! Sorry. Useless post is useless, since you already answered my question. :/

Yeah I don't mind, sorry about the name mix up, totally spaced out for a while, because Steam is one of the only places it's KyberMies instead of Kyber.

Skullgirls is a pretty awesome game, and I can't wait for Squiggly to come out for the PS3. (Anyone know when exactly that is BTW?)

My personal favorite character is Peacock. It's pretty fun playing keep away from my opponents and raining projectile hell upon them. I also like to play Filia and Ms. Fortune.

I hate her, it's a good character I know, but when she gets on my right side there is little I can do to stop her, she just knocks me back no matter what I do, I guess should train to be better at dashing.

I was really interested in the game while it was being developed and when it was first released on PSN and XBLA.

I really adored all the characters and the gameplay mechanics were both easy to learn and difficult to master. The hand drawn animations are awesome and the personality and charm that comes from each of the characters is really what makes this game shine.

My favorite characters are Filia (I have a weakness for balanced characters, i.e. Ryu, Mario, etc.), Peacock (more so her personality than her gameplay style; I like to fight enemies head on), and Valentine (again, direct combat and combo driven).

I'm glad that Squigly is out and that they are already hard at work on Big Band. Now I just want Squigly to come to consoles so that I can see if I'll use her in future matches.

For me, I hate going up against Parasoul and Painwheel. The former can be difficult to fight because she has good anti-air and she's decent at both close range AND long range. So it's kinda hard to gain an advantage over her. Painwheel is also an absolute monster (figuratively AND literally) in the right hands.

I guess Cerebella can be annoying to, as she can do lots of damage if she gets too close. Of course, being a grappling character, that's kind of to be expected.

Finally, yeah, going up against another Peacock can be pretty tough if you don't close the distance with her fast enough. Although usually, I'm also playing Peacock, so I can just use her teleport to close the distance with her easily.

I both love and hate Skullgirls. I enjoy the game, the characters, the art style, the way it seems to blend together the good parts of a load of fighting games from over the years, it all adds up to a good game. But I find it can be very unforgiving. Really long combos that at any point may be turned into a reset through a throw seems to be the name of everyone's game, so it can be really hard to get anything going once you've been touched.

But as long as you're not playing someone who's monstrously good at the game, it's great. The only character I'd say I'm any good as is Squigly. Even though I owned Skullgirls on the 360, no one particularly worked for me. Then I tried Squigly when she was released in the beta and she just stuck. A combination of her stance-cancel thing and Liam o'Brien voicing Leviathan got her the place of my main in a heartbeat. I'm also aware that a big part of her gameplan is going for resets which is the core of my complaint about the game, but I'm a big fat hypocrite so don't care.
I've picked up Parasoul recently because her moderately good zoning and bullet-taking Egret move should in theory give her a chance against Peacock. I don't know if it's the Squigly vs. Peacock matchup or just me not being very good, but it's not difficult for a good Peacock to get two near-perfect rounds on me.

[sub]Also if anyone has a spare Filia and/or Ms. Fortune Steam Trading Card cloggin up their inventory I'd be a bud and take it off you. Because I'm so nice.

No idea and its the main reason I got Skullgirls on steam despite not liking steam and having Skullgirls on the PS3 I think originally it was the end of September but I have heard there are problems now something about memory maxing out for unknown reasons in certain situations on consoles so it could be longer. Really though I have nothing concrete to offer and havent seen any definitive answer.

Yup I hear ya its like oh they hit me ok I will put the kettle on if they are really good though it can be impressive to watch your like yup ok its gonna end now anytime.....anytime now.....soon...holy hell just stop and then they burst bait you or throw reset and your dead. Its not the only game that has this problem to be fair though nor the worst imo and at least people have to change it up a little bit to prevent the IPS kicking in.

Glad you like Squigly though I really like that character im not that great with her but im probably better with her than Valentine although I still need to get her stance cancels nailed as I cant do it reliably enough cancelling HP X2 into HP X2 just seems to be impossible for me but then again I just havent got the rhythm yet.

Peacock can be a pain in the ass and I dont have good match experience but wouldnt Squiglys screen pulling move help? Then again against any person who is really good with a character its pretty damn rough I honestly dont have any character I dislike facing in this game they all seem really good in the right hands.

I dont like many of Squiglys colours which is a very minor disappointment I think my favourite is Parasouls Jessica Rabbit colour palette im not a huge fan of Parasoul but that colour swap makes me want to put her on the team :) maybe I will add her when I start to get Squigly and Val down a bit better but she will have to make room for Eliza eventually.

This vid is probably my favourite burst bait I have seen it looks smooth as hell

Well I'll admit I can't do the actual stance cancels, I use the shortcut thing you can do by pressing two punch or kick buttons when you've got a fully charged stance... thing. Even then it was a good two days of practice until I could do it properly.

As for moving Peacock towards you, moving the screen doesn't stop whatever attack Peacock's doing so most of the time opening myself up to do the move lets them get enough hits in to keep me still until they can run away again. Playing solo Squigly, I haven't experimented much with using assists to cover me, but I don't see it helping much.
That seems to be the problem, all of Squigly's moves have too slow a start up to get through Peacock's barrage, apart from maybe her divekick. And that's not much use when you're stuck on the other side of the screen with crap falling from the sky to keep you grounded, no less.

But as you said, a really good Peacock won't let anything through, and a really good Squigly probably wouldn't let them get away in the first place. Until I come up with something better, I'll stick to my regular anti-Peacock strategy of abusing Squigly's jumping HP and hoping they jump into it over and over.

I did used to play just Filia but as far as i'm concerned she's the worst one in the game. In a cast where everyone is broken in one way or another, the one balanced character is worthless.

I fucking hate Squigly. Hate. She just instakills you with one combo plus half a reset and everyone online can do it 100% correctly.

I eventually dropped every other character in the game and I play nothing but Peacock. You have combos? Hahaha! No. Get back you filthy swine. NO I SAID BACK! HAT LASER *****!

I do really like the game don't get me wrong, people just need to stop being good is all. I wish the game had a proper burst though, or at least make the IPS SAFE on burst. What's even the point of an anti infinite system if it boils down to a free reset if you're half decent?

I got this game some time ago, but i just couldn't get into it, it was too slow for my tastes

And while i didn't play for much, i remember Peacock was pretty fucking annoying

Although the graphics were pretty nice, while i don't like some of the designs, the sprites were pretty well animated

I also got this game pretty recently from a friend on Steam, but I feel his plan of getting me to play matches with him was a bit poorly thought out. Huge differences in hours played, desire to get actually good at it and such. Plus I get salty quickly if I can't get one good, non-mashed hit in.

I tried Ms Fortune but just can't get a hold of the decapitation gimmick, which is a shame since her character is likeably goofy. Then I grew to like Cerebella, but probably just because she's got high damage and better reach and mobility than I'm used to seeing on grapplers. Also, that elbow drop.

Though now with Pinwheel, I'm finally trying to learn how to bloody play the game. I want to figure out some neat combo utilizing Hatred Install, but the best I can do right now is 6k damage in corner. 1v1 Training room if that matters

Btw, the online rankings bugged the other day for me on Steam, and I got 3 undeserved wins. Since that boosted me from 1 total win to 4, my ranking rose from #9000 to around #5500. Yay for getting beaten even more mercilessly in the future! *sigh*

I remember when I randomly bought it for PS3 when it came out... Then, I was blown away when I found out more about the game's development, which was the exact point where I started investing time into it... It's one of more easier "hardcore" fighters I've gotten into over the years...

Been meaning to get it on Steam BECAUSE ALL MY FRIENDS ONLY HAVE IT ON STEAM! (Plus, Squigly...)

I mostly main with Ms Fortune ,Peacock, or Valentine... Peacock was sorta the last one to main with, but that was mostly due to how I had to immediately switch playing styles... Overall, I enjoy it... Still waiting for Squigly to reach PS3 and I'm still happy that the Skullgirl engine could be used to work on this other fighting game that I started following more than a year ago...

Just to let people know after myself struggling to get Squiglys HP x 2 stance cancel into HP x 2 linker apparently its a two frame link which would explain why I had great trouble getting it consistently so unless your execution is godly I suggets dropping that string and just linking the HP x 2 cancel to MK/P HP X2 instead its less damage ofc but at least its its less chance of a dropped combo.
