Skylanders: Giants [http://www.skylanders.com/] releases tomorrow in North America, and I must say, I've been looking forward to it for the past week or so. Now, I didn't play the original, but it did intrigue me enough to keep an eye on it from a safe distance. I love little statuettes, and the fact that you can, nye, have to use them in game is a neat little feature. I know I'm probably way out of the target age group for such a game (I turned 22 this past Tuesday), but I'm really planning on picking it up.

It looks like fun!

I suppose the reason I'm making this thread is to ask if anybody else is looking forward to the game? I'm well aware the game might not be talked about much around these parts, but I figured I'd at least try. The game has already been released everywhere else as far as I know, too. Any opinions?

[sub]Come on, the game has Spyro [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyro_the_Dragon_%28character%29] in it![/sub]

[sub]EDIT: This post was originally to test if the Escapist had eaten my thread.[/sub]

[sub]That has since been corrected.[/sub]

I would, but I'm keeping away from it due to Spyro. I mean seriously, what did they do to the poor bastards face?

It's just a "different" iteration of Spyro.

I much prefer to how he looks in the original games and Skylanders than to what he looked like in the Legend trilogy...

Uh. The Spyro in Skylanders in a horribly designed trainwreck.

But, this game doesn't really grab me. First because I tried getting into the later Spyro games on the PS2 and they turned out to not be all that great.

Second, you need toys for this to work? Seriously? That's...a lame way to design a game. I kind of like just needing a disk.

I know, but his face is just scary. Actually, I don't think I've played the legend trilogy.

Well, the Legend trilogy that you're referring to wasn't held in high esteem, so I have heard. It was the original PS1 games that made Spyro a household name. Skylanders is just a different approach to the character's design.

Less Elijah Wood, too.

The toys aren't that large of an issue. Sure, it's clearly trying to get people to buy them all, as its aimed for younger kids. However, that's optional. I think it's a neat little system they've got going there.

I'll agree with you there, I'm still trying to get used to it, heh.

There was a huge Skylanders display opposite my work. I still have no idea what it actually is besides the fact they crammed Spyro into it.
Same here, and I think that is partly what they where going for. Add Spyro into it and more people will buy it.

That's why I included those handy little links in my OP, just for the uninformed.

Maybe that was the situation with the first game, but this one doesn't even have Spyro's name in the title. He's more of a featured character than anything else. There seems to be a much larger "storyline" going on than that of just Spyro.
