SOO why are you still using WEP encryption?

OT: This is a pretty senseless idea, and I think it is fantastic, I wonder what the bot will do once it breaks into networks, will it leave a note saying "You's been hacked by a machine, fix your shit?"
I have honeypots for that. They can hack those all they fucking want.

I lol'd much, so I must thank you.

OT: Next, bots will be specifically made to combat these, and then, bots to combat those, and then... bots everywhere...
SkyNet would have fulfilled its mission

Am i the only one who thinks this thing seems a bit similiar to the Cypher from the second Metal Gear Solid games?

http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Cypher

I mean, just add a camera onto that thing (And maybe a machine gun) and it'll be almost exactly like Cypher..with some differences of course.

duh, it was built by hackers (in the classical sense) at a technical school. the reason it was built is 'we could so why not?'.

why does everything have to be about botnets now? the media is a real bore when it gets hold of a new tech buzzword. there are far far faster, easier cheaper ways of compromising computers for a botnet. for instance, every single way they currently do it. what difference does the drone make to command and control of the botnet? either its a floating server or a floating proxy and either way the techniques for dealing with it are no different than for dealing with the same thing on the ground. fucking idiot media, seriously.

With some modifications for good rather than evil, you could deploy a number of these together and have yourselves an emergency wireless mesh network that finds and borrows working landlines. Something like that would be ideal for improving communications in the aftermath of natural disasters and similar situations.

I really want to know what this SkyNET is actually going to be used for.

I'm sure it has SOME military application...

It more about the level of control having custom firmware flashed onto the router. Also, depending on what country you are in, you can use this [http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index] to get around certain blocked sites. Especially good in places like China, or even Australia where they are talking about banning certain sites.

If you're not particularly computer savvy though, it might be in your best interest to use the preloaded firmware. DD-WRT takes a certain level of command line knowledge. Besides, I can't imagine there will be too many of these bots flying around.

Something tells me they only named it skynet to get our attention. It worked, but I saw through it. I wonder if they'll name their first military cyborgs terminators. Actually, that would be pretty bad ass.

Or has a Windows error and crashes. Not feeling threatened by this particular prophecy anymore.
But it isn't running windows!!!!

On a serious note, sounds cool. I could imagine other uses for this like using long term versions as floating hot spots. In stead of cracking your network it flys up to get Line of Sight with the nearest network tower and projects an encrypted signal down to users so as to enable faster connections.
Then what does it run? Linux?. . . .

It is "Ride of the Valkyries" :)

But on topic:

I think this needs to have some regulations put in order, that doesn't look safe to be flying around, specially if it breaks down. OK seems a great spying device but, still you should keep your networks secured anyway. Unless they have found a way to crack them this isn't much more dangerous than my friends helium balloon WLAN/3G system (Which is fucking hillarious btw. Specially the first version)

no different than any other flying model helicopter/plane/drone. i think it basically comes down to if you damage anything or injure someone or fly over private property and someone complains you're in trouble but if not no one cares. things like this and helicopters tend to be pretty light anyway, id rather have this drop out of the sky onto my head that have a petrol engines plywood model plane plow into me.

Do you live in one of these banned countries or actually have a full necessary need to have the software on hand? People like you make me chuckle :3

You are, of course, correct. I should avoid Wagner and stick to what I know. Instead imagine this...
