First off, there are a couple of topics that deal with this issue already in circulation, but none of them are quite as pressing as my current situation:

I have Skyrim on 360, which I received for Christmas at my request. Now, my problem is this: the graphics are abhorrent. Seriously, I almost threw up when I saw an Arcane Enchanter for the first time after having watched my housemate play it on PS3 for a month. I want to know whether it's worth my efforts getting rid of my Xbox copy in favour of a PS3 version? I don't have Xbox live and, thus can't update my current version and I can't stand the low-res textures and tiny draw distance, but is it worth the trade out for a cart-full of game breaking bugs in lag city?

And please, for the love of Hel herself, do NOT tell me to get it on PC. If I wanted to play a game with a keyboard I'd... Well, I'd be acting uncharacteristically.

This.

PC is the way to go if youre only bothered about graphics.

of course there is a price issue...

Dear God, this is priceless ! :D

Also, OP, remember : PC version of Skyrim will become better and better with time thanks to modders. Even today, without official tools to change its content they managed to make it better, faster, more beautiful. Imagine what will happen when they'll put their hands on construction set... All those adventures, new locations, abodes, NPCs...

...Seriously? Four out of five comments are centred around the PC version... I don't have a PC and, to be honest, don't really want one: They just aren't games consoles in my mind. I use a mac as I work in film; PCs are little more than word processors to me. I just want to know what people think in the 360 vs PS3 argument for this game (considering I have both).

If there's any diehard Sykrim fans out there, I need some serious convincing here cause I'm on the verge of getting rid of it and waiting for a few years before bothering again. I still need to finish Oblivion and, from what I see, the improvement isn't as massive a Bethesda would like us to think. It might just be my increasingly hostile attitude towards everything, but Skyrim has been seriously wounded by the hype brigade in my mind. I love Elder Scrolls and vikings and all other factors synonymous with the game, but I can't get over the fact that hunting or, you know, actually seeing enemies is seriously hindered in the 360 version by the terrible draw distance (in comparison to the game size, not other games).

In short, PC is not an option. 360 or PS3 is the arena I'm working in, if any at all. If anyone can advise, it would be a hugely appreciated help!

PS3 will be slightly better.

And that's all I can say on the matter, because that's all there is to say.

To be fair, you said that you were unhappy with the option that is the best for you. The only way to get better is if you change your restrictions. Believe me, dropping another $60 on the game for a 5% increase in graphical fidelity isn't a very cost effective option.

I watched my roommate play it on his shitty PC and thought it looked a little like ass. Then I saw the PS3 version and my reaction was close to yours on the 360. Just play the game and enjoy it for what it is. Gaming shouldn't be about graphics, and Elderscrolls games are much more about the gameplay than how pretty they look.

I have the 360 version and haven't noticed any issues at all with draw distance or terrible textures. Yes, some of the textures are not absolutely amazing but given the number of surfaces in the game and that they've all been crammed onto one disc with no required install, it's pretty much what I expected. One thing I did notice, however, is that you really want to be running the game via an HDMI cable. I tried it with the composite and it does look notably worse with that connection and setting.. moreso than other games I tried. If you're running on composite maybe that's the issue? *shrug*

Anywho, I doubt the PS3 version would be much different so if you find it that terrible then maybe you should just return it while you can. Unlike on the PC, there's just really not much you can do to make games perform better on a console.

not even 5 posts and we have someone going off on how great the PC is...

but is it worth the trade out for a cart-full of game breaking bugs in lag city?
See, THIS is why I don't like Bethesda. Because they make a situation where people can actually ask this and not be joking. People can ask "is __________ worth game-breaking bugs?"

NO. GAME-BREAKING BUGS ARE NEVER WORTH ANYTHING. EVER.

Stick with the 360 version.

You really don't know what you're missing. If the controls are the only problem, like people have said, you can get a 360 gamepad for your computer.

Thanks for the advice, dude: I think I've come to a decision. I'm gonna stick with the 360 version and just make sure I'm always high when I play it. If they release a GotY edition (which, c'mon, they will) I'll entertain thoughts of getting it on PS3 , considering they sort out all the bloody glitches. I do have plans to build a rig at some point in the future, mainly for Bethesda games, but until then I'll just have to make do. It may be moot complaining about the graphics on such a Bethesda game, but I just want to experience Skyrim at it's optimum capacity with my current boundaries.

Price issue?

Skyrim is cheapest on PC, PC has been proven time and time again to be the cheapest platform and the PC version has far more things than graphics in it's favour.
But it isn't the most convenient platform to buy the game of. Great if you know you way around PCs but consoles are the one way of gaming where you'll know exactly what you're getting in term of specs.

Go to this website and select Skyrim from the drop down menu (it's under "the"). If it says your computer can run it then I strongly suggest getting the PC version. There's already tons of mod for the game that vastly improve the experience. And the creation kit hasn't even been released yet.

If it can't (Although I don't see why it wouldn't Skyrim's requirements are surprisingly low) or your dead set against a PC version then stick with the 360 version. The PS3 version might look slightly better but the 360 version is far more stable. The PS3 version has serious lag issues with large save files and there might not be a way to fix it. It's something to do with Skyrim's engine and the PS3's architecture. There was a couple articles about it.

That website has been 100% accurate for me and it's all you really need to determine if you can run something or not.

IF you hook your 360 up to the internet, even if it's only briefly - you can patch the game to fix the textures. We all had to endure it from release until the first/second patch went live.

I got it on 360, don't like the sounds of the problems on PS3 and I had Oblivion on PC. I went with a 360 copy as I can't afford a new PC and Oblivion was the last game that worked decently on my PC. I personally agree with getting it on the PC though as I would've done so had I not been a cheapskate and gone for a new console this Xmas.

Probably pick up a new comp in the summer along with a copy of Skyrim & SC2.
