Oh um so I can buy something that I can get in a mod for free? Great.
This.
Now maybe if this was PART of a larger DLC then fine.

But didn't Bethesda say they were aiming for large DLC's with a lot of content? This is a step in the wrong direction.

If this is true I'll be mighty disappoint.
Wasn't it they were going to be releasing big DLC like Dawnguard and then smaller bits for free?
I may just be completely wrong though.

Wow, you people are really impressive with your psychic abilities.

Not only do you know that this leak can be trusted, but you also know that Bethesda's housing mod will suck!

That means you have excluded - via your awesome psychic powers - that the whole housing stuff could be really well executed, with lengthy quests and new areas! Say, like that Ravenhold-Stuff in Morrowind: Bloodmoon! I mean, it is totally unbelieveable that Bethasda could make a fun game with a boring premise, like a game about killing dragons! How boring would that be!

Truely some impressive stuff is going on in this thread. Of course, I could also assume that you are just complaining without no solid information to complain about! But that would not give your psychic powers enough credit, would it now?
To be fair, this thread is talking specifically about the leaked content and what people thin about it, and this is what people think about it.

It would be quite a boring and pointless thread if people all just shrugged and said that there was not enough information, speculation is fun!

OT: While DLC is fun, the main kick I get out of it is the wealth of new resources that people will be able to play with. I remember trying to mod the base game and being annoyed because all the cool mods at least required Shivering Isles for some of there assets. So even though the actual content made by Bethesda might be underwhelming the doors opened up for modders is not.

yes but this is already a mod.Build your own house. The Shivering Isles wasn't. Hopefully though, there will be more to the DLC than that and that is just a feature of the DLC.
It's only on one platform though. Saying 'it's pointless because mods' is like saying 'Dawnguard is already on the 360 so why should they release it again'?
But yeah, I'd like a bit more than just a house. Like spellcrafting or something.

Now I know you're just being deliberately obtuse.
Or I am just using Bethesda's past DLC descriptions to make a realistic assumption that houses are not the only thing in this DLC.

Using a companies past actions to determine future results? THE HORROR!!!
To be fair, using the same logic you can work out houses WILL be the only thing in this DLC.

Only problem with your plan is free or not Microsoft has rights to a 30 day exclusivity on the Xbox for Skyrim's DLCs and Expansions.
I still have no idea why Microsoft would want to delay the content being put to the PC even though the operating system it typically uses is Microsoft's flagship product.

Part of the reason for this DLC when there is already a mod, would be that there are a lot of people that have Skyrim on console and therefore can't use mods but can buy DLC so this will give them the option of creating their own house if they think its worth the price.
If they ever release it for ps3...

If that's true I'll be really disappointed, I was hoping for at least another Shivering Isles sized map. Even though Dawnguard has a lot of biggish sized new areas it didn't feel nearly as impressive or explorable as SI, and much more linear to boot.

So if the build your own home IS true, what would that mean for the mods that do this type of thing? Would they become obsolete or would this give more expansion to the moddable content.

Sounds like it might be something small and I certainly would not mind if it was. Cheap and small is my favorite type of DLC really. It lets me decide if I want it or not a lot easier.

The problem with bethesda and mojangs modding community, is that it makes it impossible for them implement any new features or DLC without people getting their pitchforks and going "MODS ALREADY DID IT!"

This DLC will also be available for consoles, have any of you stopped and thought of that for a second before throwing this off as the worst kind of trash ever?

Also. For the moment being, this is all rumors and leaks. How about putting your weapons down until we get some official information eh?

I like how everyone just jumps to the conclusion of "OmG der's alr3dy mods for dis!". We know NOTHING about this apart from what this guy says, yeah, he's had accurate information before, that means jack shit. I highly doubt that it would just be "A building mod", and if it was, I'd probably still get it, because chances are, it would be better than the mod.

Jumping in on the whole "mods" argument...

Mods can indeed do anything. And they are free with the purchase of the PC version of the game. It is possible for a mod to do anything,so long as it's within the limits of the engine (and sometimes beyond, thanks to Script Extender utilities). In theory,a mod or mod collection could have made a Shivering Isles equivalent (Look up Nehrim: At Fate's Edge sometime) and are of varying quality. This DLC is interesting, and the big feature, that we know of,is already done by a well known mod. However, this DLC will more than likely include other features. However, since non-PC users can't use mods, they must used official DLC,so Hearth Fire,if it is only a "Build your own home" thing, will be able to scratch the itch of console gamers.

Also,I don't see anyone pointing our Oblivion's "themed home" DLC's...

More on topic,if this is legit, colour me intrigued. Something to keep an eye on.

Only the first two actually, and knowing Bethesda they could probably find some way to weasel in a DLC that's not counted as one of the two DLCs.

The Fighter's Stronghld was actually pretty badass, I remember being able to get pelts to make trophies and stuff.

But anyways, with Hearthfire we can supposedly buy land, which means there's most likely going to be more then one place to put it, and thus probably more then one way to build it up.

The houses in Oblivion's DLC were 99% done shells you just bought furniture for. This DLC has building up a home from a one room cabin, to a vast mansion, which already makes it go far beyond the scope of Oblivion's houses.

From my experience official DLC is pretty much always better and feels more polished, it also has (good) voice acting. I don't mind at all, in theory everything can be done wit mods but if I have to choose between a mod and official version of the same thing I'll go with the official one.

Anyway let's hope they'll put a Carriage in front of your house or make it near a city for those of us that don't use fast travel, I don't use any house mods because they all assume you use fast travel.

No offence guys and girls but how about we wait till the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT before we make our judgements yeah? No-one said that it was going to be a small content DLC - I seriously doubt that it would JUST end up being a house construction simulator.

I will probably get flak for this but Skyrim felt so meh to me compared to the earlier games in the series. No longer excited by the brand anymore.
I feel you man, for some reason Oblivion was more inspiring than Skyrim.

Might have been because it was the first game I seriously got into.

Is this part of a big DLC or just a small Plug-In like Oblivions Thieves den and so on?

Given that Oblivion's house plug-ins were just a shell of a house that you bought furniture upgrades for with maybe one or two small quests like "kill badguys in basement", and this DLC has purchasable land, and houses you build from one room cabins up to large mansions, I am going to guess that this is far larger then an Oblivion plug-in.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a multitude of quests like
-Clearing the land before you can buy it
-Hiring workers to build your house
-Having to do stuff for the local Jarl before you can get X upgrade
-Having to collect resources to actually use in the construction of your house

Sort of like Morrowind's house building quests, but longer, and less shitty.

And they will probably throw in things like adoption, and seasonal foliage, and skeleton butlers to round it out.
