Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about this. It's nice that it's in the game but I want to keep my expectations low in case it turns out the only gay option is a young, Imperial pretty-boy named Terry the Hairdresser who's equipped with a unique pink crossbow that shoots bedazzled bolts that explode into rainbows and glitter upon impact.
It's cool with me, I just quoted you to thank you for designing the foundation for my first Bosmer. Terry the Hairdresser sounds like someone I'd really love to kill dragons as.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that the "immature video game instrusty" is showing more maturity and common decency towards this subject than most politicians?

Awesome wording in the title, Dude. (/Joke)

Well, hopefully, relationships will have more meaning than in Fable. Maybe I can bring my bad-ass wife or bud "Clubbing" in the mountain tops or the autumn Forests. If I'm lucky, they'll get eaten by a DRAGON!

Oh, I'm as giddy as a Japanese Schoolgirl! When will November get here sooner?!

I share the same optimism. You can count on that.

Unless you are sarcastic and...

I'm personally more interested in how the companion mechanic will work out. Just how useful will my friends be? If I marry one, will they be willing to fight to the death for me? Will they run away and leave me to die when a dragon comes in? At the very least, will they be able to be my pack mule?

If they have a use, I'll make friends or even get married, otherwise I'll most likely ignore it.

I'm a little bit more intrigued by the idea to have roommates and partners to roam Skyrim with. Imagine the possiblities...of the glitches.

Of course now there are going to be people who make it their business to marry every single npc in all of Skyrim. Just because it's possible

Basically, just make sure it's natural, rather than having overly flamboyant boys prancing around like twats.
Agreed. I'm gay too and I actually have more straight male friends than gay friends if only because I can't stand the flaming.
...that and most gay guys don't play videogames or watch anime and the such.
So its not to say they don't exist, but by only showing the flaming stereotype suddenly everyone will assume ALL gay people are like that...i.e. walking dick jokes with a limp wrist.
*sigh*
Persona 4 and Fallout New Vegas are probably the only games that looked at it more realistically that come to mind.
I wish New Vegas would have let me pursue a relationship with Arcade Gannon...

Of course, this game will most likely go the route of Dragon Age II and just make everyone bi or pansexual, but I'll take what I can get, especially if that means that gay character won't mean annoying stereotype...

I'm not sure I like that stereotype... Gay doesn't automatically mean camp. Personally I haven't been a fan of the Elder Scroll series up till now, but I wouldn't say Bethesda are a bunch of idiots; they do know a thing or two about character design.
What do I think of including a gay person in general? Sure, why not? I don't understand any of it myself, but it's nice that homosexuals have some media they can relate to as well.

Yeah, I hate it when they do that. It really makes it feel like they just put it in there for the option, when instead they could use it for good character development. Developers usually throw it in but then just leave it there, so much so that characters never even comment on it. While yeah, on one hand they're trying to say "oh, its a perfectly accepting society" on the other hand it also says they don't want to get their hands into the social issue of it. To this date Persona 4 is the only one that I've seen that really did that.

Stop reminding me that I don't have Persona 4, I only have the first one and found it hard to get into. Atlus, make a portable version of your apparent magnum opus and I will buy it.

*Points to Persona 3 Portable*
Not as good as 4, but similar and still amazing.
Also the newer Personas are FAR easier to get into that 1, they're less archaic.
And come now, a PS2 is like $60 nowadays NEW xD

I have a PS2, but it's at my mom's and I hate to lug it back and forth. But, I still want to get Persona 4 for it if I find it. It's kind of costly for a PS2 game. I know, Persona 3 Portable eludes me as well, I bought Persona 1 instead since it was $10 less and I needed the money to put towards something else. Stupid, Pokemon obsession...

Oh, no! Would someone please think of the children? /sarcasm

I don't really care, since the series is all about player choice. Therefore I'll choose for my character to not marry a dude.

I see, they're expanding their market to yaoi fangirls who will play anything where two guys can boink. It will succeed.

I'm just annoyed that Bethesda considered this a worthy feature to include in a medieval type fantasy adventure game.
My thoughts exactly.
Seconded.
It's also a break from the established TES setting where every NPC was a bigot or atleast prejudiced.
This fun fact and the previous tweet how they will drop racism in TES, suggests to me that they are just cutting NPC behaviour.
Knowing Bethesda no NPC will react if your PC is married to a man or a woman or a cat. Nothing will ever register, beyond a perk on your fact sheet.

The only thought i have on this is that it's annoying this is even considered news. I mean, it hardly matters (would just like to say, this is not aimed at you, more at sites like Kotaku that feel the need to report this).

I'll be honest, i'm not a big fan of homosexuals, i don't mind them but i have no intrest in what they get up to. For a game to handle homosexuality correctly, it should not even come up if you play it as a hetrosexual. Likewise, if you would like to play as a homosexual, there should be no reprecussions, or indeed any prejudice against it.

On the subject of another game (Mass Effect 3), i'm slightly worried that Shepard has all of a sudden decided he likes abit of bratwurst. It just seems so out of character for a character that hasn't shown any homosexual tendacies to this point (unless you count blue alien's as lesbians of course).

But that's a topic for another thread.

Basically, just make sure it's natural, rather than having overly flamboyant boys prancing around like twats.
I agree with not wanting to make the gay NPCs massive stereotypes, but I'm not so sure about it never coming up. Prejudices make fake worlds seem more real. I'm not suggesting some kind of Skyrim KKK or the townspeople chasing a gay protagonist out of town with pitchforks, just that I think it'd add a lot of depth if, I dunno, all the shopkeepers in a town don't much like to deal with Harbargle the Fudgepacker Blacksmith because he's one of those, if you know what I mean.

It could even be a minor quest. Imagine a Count who's facing scandal and ruin due to his inclination, you could introduce any number of interesting layers to that. Blackmail, social intrigue, possibly the Count is looking for someone to silence the person who knows for a price.

Just ideas off the top of my head, but you can do a lot with a person's sexuality in a game like this. Unfortunately, I think it might get Bethesda in some trouble if they really did do stuff like that, but that's just idiots being idiots.
