I think the whole friendships/relationships/marriages thing sounds like a fantastic addition to the gameplay, straight or gay. I'm looking forward to Skyrim even more than I was before if that's possible.

As to whether it's a big deal though, I think it kind of is. In an ideal world it would go without saying that if you can have a straight romantic relationship in a computer game you can have a gay one too, but we don't live in an ideal world. So this is a sign of progress.

Movie Bob says it better than I can, as usual, although on another subject.

Why should sexuality even matter in a game in the first place? Especially when the particular has you fight dragons, storm dungeons, stop a civil war....and be a hero???
It's an Elder Scrolls Game, the entire point of them is to play however you want, as any character. They've never been just about being a hero who fights the big bad (I think I've only done that once in both morrowind and oblivion out of countless characters made).

Granted, I'm unlikely to use the marriage feature, although if I can still sleep around and be a total twat, I will be one happy panda.

I'd say to anyone upset by this Whats the problem?
It will unravel the moral fabric of Skyrim....Or something.

Remember, the people who are most likely to get offended by this are also the ones who spend their time policing others' morals.

I think the Vampires and Necromancers already took all the moral fabric and made smart but casual attire out of it.

Just sayin :p

I couldn't care less about this. Who cares what you can marry in a game. That's a thing you should pay more attention to in real life. In Skyrim, all I want to do is teabag dragon corpses.

Bah. Vampires and necromancers are nothing compared to the threat of homosexuality!!!!

...Or something.

Plus, vampires are now allegory for Mormon Supermen.

Anyway, joking aside, I've never noticed other impropriety get in the way of a good rant about homosexuality.

Well, "good" is a loose term.

We should ask them which would they prefer to be locked in a room with.
I'm pretty sure they would get over their issues pretty fast.

Basically, just make sure it's natural, rather than having overly flamboyant boys prancing around like twats.
Agreed. I'm gay too and I actually have more straight male friends than gay friends if only because I can't stand the flaming.
...that and most gay guys don't play videogames or watch anime and the such.
So its not to say they don't exist, but by only showing the flaming stereotype suddenly everyone will assume ALL gay people are like that...i.e. walking dick jokes with a limp wrist.
*sigh*
Persona 4 and Fallout New Vegas are probably the only games that looked at it more realistically that come to mind.
I wish New Vegas would have let me pursue a relationship with Arcade Gannon...

Of course, this game will most likely go the route of Dragon Age II and just make everyone bi or pansexual, but I'll take what I can get, especially if that means that gay character won't mean annoying stereotype...
Yeah, I hate it when they do that. It really makes it feel like they just put it in there for the option, when instead they could use it for good character development. Developers usually throw it in but then just leave it there, so much so that characters never even comment on it. While yeah, on one hand they're trying to say "oh, its a perfectly accepting society" on the other hand it also says they don't want to get their hands into the social issue of it. To this date Persona 4 is the only one that I've seen that really did that.
Stop reminding me that I don't have Persona 4, I only have the first one and found it hard to get into. Atlus, make a portable version of your apparent magnum opus and I will buy it.
*Points to Persona 3 Portable*
Not as good as 4, but similar and still amazing.
Also the newer Personas are FAR easier to get into that 1, they're less archaic.
And come now, a PS2 is like $60 nowadays NEW xD
I have a PS2, but it's at my mom's and I hate to lug it back and forth. But, I still want to get Persona 4 for it if I find it. It's kind of costly for a PS2 game. I know, Persona 3 Portable eludes me as well, I bought Persona 1 instead since it was $10 less and I needed the money to put towards something else. Stupid, Pokemon obsession...
POKEMON OBSESSIONS ARE NEVER STUPID
*ahem*
Yes, it IS kind of expensive, but it came out (fairly) recent-ish and well, its a good 60 hours long. So worth the price personally :/
I think P3P is like $30 on the PSN though.

It would be a bit weird if you can marry ANYONE regardless of gender, I mean, what's the chances of every person in the world being bisexual.

Just so long as I'm not constantly being hit on by burly orcs and nords in the street...
ehh... You just reminded me of that orc blacksmith in the Shivering Isles. "That's a big chest you've got there... you mind if I help you get this thing on?"

My only gripe thus far is the lack of use of a search function. This thread already exists under a different name, conveniently linked at the bottom of page 1.

This SHOULDN'T be news. Yes, it has gay marriage as an option. Most people don't go ape when they learn Anti-aliasing is an option, so why all the fuss about this?

Can we please move on to things that actually matter now?

Sidenote: Nothing against you, OP, really. Only advice I have for you is to use the search function before posting. :)

I don't have any strong opinion on the matter. I am, however, sick of people like this who expect people to sift through forums like they do all day, just in case someone posted it previously. It's not so much this instance I cant stand, because the topic really doesnt matter, my bitterness stems from doing google searches for a problem I am having and every single post is the exact problem I'm looking for, but a bunch of "Vergials" saying "OMG its already been posted, L2Search" without providing the answer or link. Especially after finding the so called original post of the issue (like having multiple sources of info is the bane of the internet) and it's 404'd or something to the effect. /endrant

I have no problem with the gay marriage both Skyrim or real life. So what if a character can be gay, or if you have a burly orc caressing your male character's inner thigh as sit. It's just a game, and if you don't like him, shoot him in the face with an arrow--or some other equally deadly attack. It's not to say that this would actually happen in the game, but still. It's a choice and we don't have to pick it if we don't want to.

It should barely be news. What is news is your awful stereotyping. Really?

OT: This not only was already a thread but it's on the front page...

Your rant was entirely useless, being based on something I don't actually do: sifting through forums all day just to say 'learn to search'.

The post was linked. Bottom of page one. On top of that, the ticker on the right had that particular post at the top every time I went to watch a new video.

You need to check sources before whining about something that didn't happen.

If you'd have been whining like a petulant child about my single line, that'd be fine. However, you attribute traits to me that simply don't exist, making your rant little more than a moot point.

If you REALLY desire that link, you can go to where I mentioned it was. If you're too bloody lazy to click twice, then you don't DESERVE a link.

Not being funny but there are plenty of cases where there has been an Escapist story and then a seperate thread on the subject which has taken off.

Unless there was like 4 threads on the same day I really think it's a non issue.

OT: I wonder what the deal will be with the NPCs themselves I hope they have more personality than Fable.

I'm really looking forward to Skyrim. :)

I can imagine Terry the Hairdresser spouting off one liners like "taste the rainbow"

OT: Well TES games have always been about being the hero you want to be so I suppose it's one more addition to who you want to be. And hell I think It's a good idea as long as it's not fart three times and guido fist bump and suddenly all the town criers want a slice of viking dick pie. I'm a straight guy but I'll probably end up making a gay character at some stage just for kicks.

In the next oblivion you can have a gay liazrd man marriage (i mean like literally you can marry a gay guy, who's a lizard. not insulting or anything just trying to clarify it's a another race not a random insult for a gay person.). unless of skyrim is the next oblivion game...er......
