Agreed. I'm gay too and I actually have more straight male friends than gay friends if only because I can't stand the flaming.
...that and most gay guys don't play videogames or watch anime and the such.
So its not to say they don't exist, but by only showing the flaming stereotype suddenly everyone will assume ALL gay people are like that...i.e. walking dick jokes with a limp wrist.
*sigh*
Persona 4 and Fallout New Vegas are probably the only games that looked at it more realistically that come to mind.
I wish New Vegas would have let me pursue a relationship with Arcade Gannon...

Of course, this game will most likely go the route of Dragon Age II and just make everyone bi or pansexual, but I'll take what I can get, especially if that means that gay character won't mean annoying stereotype...
Yeah, I hate it when they do that. It really makes it feel like they just put it in there for the option, when instead they could use it for good character development. Developers usually throw it in but then just leave it there, so much so that characters never even comment on it. While yeah, on one hand they're trying to say "oh, its a perfectly accepting society" on the other hand it also says they don't want to get their hands into the social issue of it. To this date Persona 4 is the only one that I've seen that really did that.
Stop reminding me that I don't have Persona 4, I only have the first one and found it hard to get into. Atlus, make a portable version of your apparent magnum opus and I will buy it.
*Points to Persona 3 Portable*
Not as good as 4, but similar and still amazing.
Also the newer Personas are FAR easier to get into that 1, they're less archaic.
And come now, a PS2 is like $60 nowadays NEW xD
I have a PS2, but it's at my mom's and I hate to lug it back and forth. But, I still want to get Persona 4 for it if I find it. It's kind of costly for a PS2 game. I know, Persona 3 Portable eludes me as well, I bought Persona 1 instead since it was $10 less and I needed the money to put towards something else. Stupid, Pokemon obsession...
POKEMON OBSESSIONS ARE NEVER STUPID
*ahem*
Yes, it IS kind of expensive, but it came out (fairly) recent-ish and well, its a good 60 hours long. So worth the price personally :/
I think P3P is like $30 on the PSN though.
But, then I'd have to buy a new memory stick, I'll wait 'till I find a physical copy. I'll come across one, eventually...

My only gripe thus far is the lack of use of a search function. This thread already exists under a different name, conveniently linked at the bottom of page 1.

This SHOULDN'T be news. Yes, it has gay marriage as an option. Most people don't go ape when they learn Anti-aliasing is an option, so why all the fuss about this?

Can we please move on to things that actually matter now?

Sidenote: Nothing against you, OP, really. Only advice I have for you is to use the search function before posting. :)
How thick is the sand between your vag right now? Sand castle material or kitty litter? Or is it a raging case of roids that have you so butt hurt?

I like that they have the option. And that you can get married at all. XD But really, I'm not going to make a male character for the sole purpose of making him marry another guy. If I make a male character at all it'll be because....

Huh. Nevermind, it'll just be to make him marry another guy. I am so immature. XD

Yes, you are... But don't worry, normally in these games I make a uber kick ass girl to play, but I'll be playing as a guy just for some lizard on cat guy loving... ; ; I'd be ashamed if I wasn't immature!

Kind of like I started a male character in New Vegas because it was the only way to flirt with Arcade. XD Wait lizard on cat? I... Oh my. I don`t even know how that would work. XD

Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about this. It's nice that it's in the game but I want to keep my expectations low in case it turns out the only gay option is a young, Imperial pretty-boy named Terry the Hairdresser who's equipped with a unique pink crossbow that shoots bedazzled bolts that explode into rainbows and glitter upon impact.
I want that crossbow. They must now include this weapon. Because it is awesome.

Given the time-period they're going for, I don't know if it should be in the game or not...

Then again, the religion in TES doesn't ban homosexuality (which I think is the major factor in there being almost no same-gender stuffs going on until fairly recently in human history).

That would be fucking sweet! If it dazed the enemies as well then it would be practical as well as cool.

I'm just annoyed that there even is a marriage feature in the game... Its never been a "lacking" feature of the Elder Scrolls games and has never actually added anything useful to any game ever.

I don't care about guys marrying guys in a game. I'm just annoyed that Bethesda considered this a worthy feature to include in a medieval type fantasy adventure game.
Thank you.

Marriage? In my Skyrim? The fuck is this, The Sims? GTFO shoddy human relationships.

I really think everyone is overreacting with this. I doubt it's like Mass Effect, where there's intimate conversations and cutscenes with Shepard's "partner"; from what the developers have said - that you can marry anyone, regardless of gender - it just sounds like it's a generic process with which they haven't bothered with player gender checks. A clumsy decision, perhaps, but hardly a deliberate "legalisation of gay marriages", as some threads put it.

I'm all for this, I think it's great that developers are finally allowing gay relationships to be present in their games. While I admit the whole marriage thing sounds like a pointless gimmick (if memories of the Fable games are any indication) it is nice to see homosexual relationships are finally being given proper attention.

Hopefully next stop is a game with an actual gay protagonist. That said, given how hostile some people are being about this... I don't see that happening for a while.

This. I'm gay and it pisses me off when I not only see the media reinforcing this stereotype, but people in real life deciding that that's the only way they're allowed to behave. It's just f*cking stupid.
You had better be saying that with a lisp...

Just kidding.

I'm for the gays!
