It has been discussed on a previous topic that fallout multiplayer ruins the immersion and the idea that you are a lone survivor, but with the upcoming skyrim and if there was to be a new fallout, it could be along the lines of fable, where your friend coexists in your world, and you could quest with them, after all, they could be like a henchman.
what do my fellow escapists think, i personally think it could be great, but there would need to be a limit of some sort (two people max)

I think what you mean is Co-op. It could have perks but ultimately I say stay singleplayer with bethesda games - Trust me, they're better this way

I don't want any Elder Scrolls or Fallout multiplayer. These games are a world that I can escape to, alone, with that kind of solitude only a massive sandbox game can offer.

I always wanted co-op in one of Bethesda games. Not really important, rather have other things like, story, and gameplay fixed first. But if they decide to add it in I'd be fine with it. Fable added co-op and that made the game better.

Guard: Stop right there criminal scum!

Player disconnected

Me: oh you bastard.

I heard multiplayer described in a way that sounds pretty neat actually.

Ok, so all the taverns/inns are online "hubs" if you will, where you can see other players. Outside the taverns/inns is your own world, just for you. In the taverns/inns you can talk with people and invite them to your game, or join yours. When your both in a party, you both are in the leader's world. You then go out and adventure together. You could also choose to turn these hubs off if you don't want to deal with anyone and just want your world..

You know how stories always seem to start in taverns/inns. Its not far fetched at all for a fantasy game. And sounds like it would work pretty well. At least with Elder Scrolls.

Sounds cool to me at least.

Thats the basic idea of what i was thinking of, that or the orbs that fable did, also turn off-able

Imagine the multi-player bugs? Constantly losing your allies, you would feel like a desolate lone soldier even MORE so because you SHOULDN'T be alone.

Skyrim; I've been grinding my way through Oblivion and loving most of it (minus the quest bugs, inventory item bugs, crashing bugs, and auspicious spontaneous fees).

I think a Fallout MMO would be pretty wicked with a Hardcore "one death only" being pretty severe and realistic. Of course, achievements would enable permanent items or such so you don't lose everything. Just level up strength/bonuses.

Let's wait till Bethesda is to the point where they can make a stable SINGLE player game before we start to ask for Co-Op.

more budget for multiplayer = less budget for singleplayer. id rather have a good singleplayer game with no multiplayer at all..... besides, those games are well known for their ability to mod. it just wouldnt work right....... mind you, there was a mod that allowed for multiplayer in oblivion so maybe thats the way to go.

I wouldnt mind, Co-op is meant to be played with friends and not random dudes on the internet so you didnt need to worry with other players ruining your game.

Also, the more options a game has the better. If you dont want co-op then dont use it.

I know TESNexus had that kind of idea going for Oblivion, they had made an inn you could download, and if you wanted your character added, you uploaded your save data to the mod creator and you would be added to the inn as a patron. It was still ultimately a single-player affair, but I'd like that kind of idea for a fantasy game.

I'd be pretty sad if Bethesda went multiplayer, Single Player games are becoming less common, and they currently offer arguably the most extensive ones.

Local coop might be nice, but otherwise they fill out the role of a single player open world RPG quite nicely. No need for any MMO inspiration to go ruin that.

Kind of ruins the whole, "you are the chosen one", thing when you have an equally powerful buddy.

I worked out a hypothetical multiplayer system for mass effect a while back that would probably work for skyrim and maybe fallout as well. Basically there's a mercenary organization or something that you get involved with early on. You can choose to look for work (join someone else's game) or request another merc to assist you. Here you get the option to either take whoever's available (anyone who goes in saying they're looking for work) or to submit a personal request for a "specialist" (someone on your friends list.) When playing in someone else's game the guest would get gold in place of the quest items the player gets and their loot would be level balanced to them. (Each chest has different items in it for each different player)

That's the general overview of it. It would warrant a few tweaks or what have you but it could probably be done. I don't know if it would be worth actually doing or not though.

Co-op would definitely work for both of those games, even with fairly large groups playing at once.

I've always thought that they'd work as a private style MMO too. The kind where everyone can make their own private server and you can invite in as many friends as you like in to play. A full public MMO would be chaos though. Oh and it'd have to be primarily developed to be a single player game, none of this grind quest nonsense.

Perhaps they could make a game where you aren't the chosen one?

Hell in Oblivion being the chosen one just meant you were the one chosen to do fetchquests for the real main character.

I think we should wait till the industry (besides Blizzard) learn how to making a decent MMO for once before the genre dies out completely...=/
