So if it's a claseless game does that mean every character you make is going to be a jack of all trades and be good at everything and have no weakness?

In other words, Fallout 3's skill system?
Jack of all trades...But you can't zoom in on your bow. Perks are designed for specialization; skill points are for your proficiency in a given skill. So as long as you are not given enough perks to fill every slot it'll be impossible for you to be the "jack of all trades" unless you wish to be the master of none.

so the "way of the voice" or whatever is an ancient nord secret,
and the Septims were of dragonblood, and they were imperials,
and where does that leave the other races?

another thing, they say it's a classless game,
i sure hope that means that races won't have racial bonuses, you know what i mean?
You mean the Argonians canonically loose the ability to breathe underwater and immunity to all poisons or the Orcs which are an inherently larger species than the others posseses the same strength as a Wood Elf half its size contradicting the pre-established lore of the previous games?
That's exactly what i meant,
kind of a stupid statement now that i look back on it,
but still, that'll mean that your race will kind of determine your class,
which will mean that your still kind of choosing a class at the beginning of the game,

what? but you totally had weaknesses in fallout 3's skill system,
i poured all of my skill points into guns, repair, barter, and speech, and that left me useless in every other skill,
could you please explain how this makes me a jack of all trades?
I still like it the way it is, even the different races of humans have hereditary advantages over others. While it would be stupid to assume this is the norm black people for example usually have higher endurance and stamina making them excellent runners and broader noses means they can breathe through it when running. When you look at something like an Orc, Argonian, or Wood elf standing side by side one can not help by default to assume different skills native to each species. A 150 kg boxer vs a 50 kg boxer, it is obvious which one is stronger and it would be incredibly ridiculous to have them both at the same strength level. Even in a fantasy game.

while most of the stuff sounds good the 2 things that really interest me are
1) influencing the economy
2) non-static dialog, the way conversations work in RPGs are a remnant of the late 80s could we please start to get over a 20 year old system

You get 1 perk every lvl for 50 levels, and there's 280 perks (counting upgrades as perks too), you wont be able to get all perks, so you can't become a jack of all trades, since most of the skill power, lies in the perks.

I guess it will be designed for consoles first, ignoring PC users. After Oblivion, I really don't trust Bethesda anymore.

"Like previous Elder Scrolls games, you start this one as a prisoner with no scripted backstory. All you know is that you're being led to your execution, and it's up to you to supply the context. Maybe you were falsely accused or maybe you had it coming. Either way, the game doesn't care what you've been; it only cares what you do next. Character creation has been simplified considerably."

i can't believe i was able to predict this !

here's my proof:

Orcus (Mar 6, 2011 12:17:10 AM PST) - "why not a character who's just about to be executed, and he's saved with the interruption -Dragon Attack- in the middle of the townhall !"

the topic was about the invention of another character origin/start...

What about all the important stuff? Like will there be giant floating squid?

I simply canNOT wait for this game.
M'afraid the Netches died with Morrowind, man. ._.

But yeah. Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 within the same few months. The rest of 2011 is going to be badass indeed.

Although, unless he's an Altmer/Dunmer (and for Dunmer it'd still be a stretch), he'll be long dead, since it's 200 years after Oblivion.
Not necessarily. Divayth Fyr is over 4000 years old, after all.

Should this be delayed, I will be foaming at the mouth in white-hot fury.
I'll be happy for every delay because it just means another thing they're fixing.

I would very much like it,(if you have a relationship building model) if you could go and start a guild of sorts, sort of get a few NPC's together and start a pirating operation, a apocatary, or something that requires the group effort of several indeviduals, maybe even just a band of traveling hero's that slay mythic creatures together.
