Neither. I wanted to join the storm cloaks but they attacked me at the beginning and all I did was take cover in the wrong building. Also they're slowly destabilizing the region and giving the elves exactly what they want. The empire actually makes more sense to me although they treat me like some commoner when I try to join. Never mind that Im dragon born or leader of the companions.

I started the game as an Imperial, so I reluctantly joined them (even though I went with Ralof in the beginning, which seems logical no matter who you're with). As I tried to power through the quest without being distracted, found books and talked to NPCs, I grew to my decision more and more. Now I'd probably only play Stormcloak when/if I make a Nord, so I can be crazy like the rest of them.

It's weird how the game shoves you towards the Stormcloaks in the beginning when they are rather undesirable in every place but that chopping block.

The Stormcloaks are exactly like the Thalmor, just campaigning for Man supremacy instead of Mer supremacy, and splitting from the Empire will just make the Thalmor more powerful, who will eventually trample over Skyrim's rights much more than the Empire ever did,and if the Nords defeat the Thalmor, they'll just opress everyone else like the Thalmor did.I'll grant that there needs to be a new Empire,or other form of alliance between provinces, but the Stormcloaks aren't likely to do that, being complete xenophobes.Possibly most damning, the Stormcloaks are the reason you're headed to the chopping block in the first place. So,because I hate the Thalmor,I'm firmly on the side of the Legion.I do have around ten different characters, though,so I can't say that I joined the Legion INSTEAD of the Thalmor Mk. II.

Well I haven't made my final choice yet. However, in the start of the game I went with Ralof for obvious reasons. And after that I still thought about joining the Stormcloaks because Ralof was a boss and I have a dislike for the roman empire. After that I got in Sollitude and what did I find. The entire city was filled with arrogant dicks. Plus they helped the Thalmor, who I despise for obvious reasons(again).

But then I came in Windhelm. And when I saw how they treated the Dark-elves and Argonians, who are my two favorite races, I started having doubts. Then I talked to Ulfric. Who came over more as simply being in it for the title of high-king, then for the actual rights of the Nords. Then I did the quest in the Thalmor embassy. Me reading all the reports, found that the Thalmor actually want the Stormcloaks to win. Because it would weaken the empire. And also the the Empire didn't even want to ban Talos.

So yeah I'm going to choose the Empire.

Empire... they're really the only way to save Tamriel from the Thalmor. Plus I find General Tullius's speech at the end of the civil war quite touching.

While playing an assassin with his main allegiance with the DB, and a Nightingale stint on the side, I found it more logical to join the Empire. They somehow seemed better prospective customers.

And who's to say what'll happen to that incoming war when suddenly a few Thalmor generals and lords wake up on the wrong side of a slit throat?

I was Imperial in race and didn't see the "milk-drinker" thing until later
Chose Stormcloaks because the Empire tried to execute me.(Also just to make it interesting that an Imperial-Renegade-thief-character would side against his homeland.)
Regretted it after I realized how much of a prick Ulfric was. Even though I won his rebellion for him, I'd never advise that the moot choose Elisif over Ulfric.
If I was going to do an honour duel i wouldn't shout because that's cowardly in it's unfairness. Also i'd get no gratification from it.

Empire because it is the only rational choice
Yeah. After they intend to kill you by releiving you of your HEAD without even knowing or caring about WHO YOU ARE, the most rational thing to do after surviving BY PURE CHANCE is obviously to join those very same people.

Stormcloaks, because as everyone knows, Empires are inherently [a href="http://wondersofpakistan.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/imperialism.jpg"]EVIL[/a] and drag people off in the night to be MURDERED for no reason other than thinking differently.

Kinky!

I wonder what the kids will look like.

Imperials, although I haven't gotten very far - I held out taking sides so that I could freely wander the wilderness and go into towns with loyalties without having to kill anyone.

I went for Imperials, because it made sense with the kind of personality I was giving my wood elf - of course, his very race was reason to not join the Stormcloaks.

Well according to some random book I found in the woods children will always take after the mother in TES universe.

Haven't sided with either yet, but I intend to go with the Empire, purely on the basis that I want the Empire strong so they can properly put up a fight when the Dominion starts round 2. I don't particularly care who wins that fight, I only intend to weaken both sides and delay the inevitable defeat of the Empire before the Dominion ride into Skyrim, so that I can buy the time I need to complete my quest for godhood/complete my plans to stage my own coup so I can take power myself.

It will also be highly profitable in the meantime while the war is on, seeing as I'm head of 2 of the primary criminal organisations on the continent.

a decisive victoy against the Empire is a victory against the Thalmor
That's retarded.
How so? Is extremely evident throughout the game that the Empire is now just a tool for the Dominion. Beating the Empire goes against Thalmor interests, so it counts as a victory against them as well.
No.

The only person who doesn't hate the Thalmor is on the Shadowcloak side and the main quest involving the Thalmor embassy forces you to read who, I'm not going to say more.
I'd suggest you read it yourself. I love it when people misinterpret what's stated there or read only the first half.
I've read the entire thing hence why I came to said conclusion.
The Thalmor view him as an asset, are on good enough terms to talk to him (despite being on opposite sides) have used him in the past for their goals and the fact that the entire civil war benefits the Thalmor more than Skyrim makes these factors all the worse. He's an uncooperative tool but a tool none-the-less because he likes the Thalmor enough to be swayed and used by them for their unending war to weaken Skyrim.

It should be noted that not choosing a side in the Civil War is the pro-Thalmor choice as both sides are too incompetent to win without the Dragonborn.

Well I have two play throughs on the go so I've sided with both of them. I did a Mass Effect as I call it, two play throughs= opposite decisions. Well some decisions were kept the same purely because I became aware after playthrough one that some alternative choices are vastly inferior.

In Skyrim you can choose to either join the Empire or the Stormcloaks.
Wich one did u choose and why?

(I chose Imperial because i thought Ulfric and his band of merry men were a bunch of racist pricks. Besides that i just like the Roman empire and weaponry)
I've not chosen yet, but when I do, this.

Im lvl 60 Ranger and I picked NONE I hate both of them, one side is full of racist a**holes and the other is full whit annoying jerks. how ever I took a liking to the dark brother hood, mostly cuz they are a bunch of wackos worshiping a corps!
but I think ill side whit the empire, cuz I killed the empire commander that order to execute me in the beginning of the game at the beginning of the game so I have less hate towards them.

So you can't read...

Really, how is it that nearly no one is reading that damn thing properly? It even states that a victory of the Stormcloak should be avoided.
Your frustration with people who don't actually read the books is why I believe you misinterpreted what I said previously as similar to what toen6 said.

The Thalmor may use a Stormcloak but a conclusion to the war for either side is anti-Thalmor.
However the Thalmor have presence on both sides, so saying beating the Empire is beating the Thalmor is incorrect because it just alters their current plans to weaken Skyrim (which if the Stormcloaks win their higher ranks' racism would keep Skyrim divided and could cause a new civil war for the Thalmor to benefit from).

I chose the Empire. Mainly because I noticed that merchants in Imperial cities had more money to spend. I decided to go with the one that had the better economy.
