This mechanic in itself isn't an issue to me. I mean....I probably wont have anything to do with it, and if I do, it will probably be to murder my wife to get more evil points (in my own head, please PLEASE don't let them add a morality system). But this, coupled with the console to pc port, and the Fallout 3 perks, and the simplified armour....I'm starting to worry a bit.

Bethesda is really losing ground with me. I'm all for 'better borrowed then thought up badly' but their 'borrowing' the wrong things.
Note that relationships have next to nothing to do with Fable. It's just a mechanic.
I also think it's a shitty idea they included dragons for that matter. The dragons are gonna be the new 'oblivion gates'. think about it and you know what i mean.
The problem with Oblivion Gates was they were repetitive and took too long to complete. Dragon fights shouldn't take any time at all - you can even ignore them. Like you could do to Oblivion Gates.
I just hope they fix the NPC's conversations and hire plenty of voiceactors this time around, for the rest it will be good (enough) and else i will mod it myself if i have to,
Already confirmed. I think they have 75 voice actors right now.

Well yes, if you can ignore a fire-breathing dragon shooting fire at you from the sky and by ignoring that you must be playing on very easy or be invincible, i will probably be dodging and fighting that, so i wont have to reload a save. Same as you could not ignore the Daedra that guarded every gate that popped up and assaulted you as you came riding through to somewhere else and bitchsmacking you from your horse. Running away does not suit the barbarians or mages i usually play either.
I was really hoping for some more exotic creatures then the 'standard' fantasy setting, like the ones found in Shivering Isles and Morrowind. I know they said it would have that 'exotic' touch as well, but i haven't seen any screenshots of that as of today.

I'm really miffed they made consoles the main development focus since that will remove TES from the list of 'best looking games' on release since i want to play this on my PC and not my console (because of mods ofcourse, tying it into Steam wont help in that department either but that is another issue) Can only hope they make a descent DX11 patch/version like Crytek did with Crysis to escape that (but have that ready to go on release and not afterwards, shame on you Crytek) but i haven't found any information towards that either.
This is the whole issue when i complain about 'borrowing' and mechanics are a big part of that as well.
We will just have to wait and see how it actually plays out. I know it wont be a bad game, i just dont think it will be as good as i think it could be.

Yeah that's totally what elder scrolls was missing. A nagging wife, house chores and the medieval equivalent of an office job.
And the ability to murder them...eh....eh!
*nudge nudge*

You didn´t hear this from me!
...you totally heard that from me.

Edit: Here´s a thought.
I wonder what would happen if I had 2 wives in different cities.
And they would meet.

If they can script that in... I would be abusing that so freaking much!

"Who is SHE?!"
"You have another WIFE?!"
"What about Billy?"
"You have a child with HER?! you said you never wanted those annoying hellspawn!"
"Daddy? Am I a hellspawn?"

Me: Ohh.. this is just priceless!
I seriously doubt it will have that...but you just gave a great idea for a very funny future mod *grin*

When real people are marrying less, video game companies decide to include it more and more in their games.

Most people who love the Elder Scrolls games aren't interesting in digital marriage but alas, game companies think we all want to play The Sims. I remember playing a Harvest Moon game on the Gamecube and being forced to get married, then play with the kid, etc.. There wasn't enough hours in the day to tend to the farm, much less play with the damn kid. I didn't play long after that.

I don't really see a problem with new features being added.

In fact, I've liked nearly everything I've heard about Skyrim so far. I'm very excited for it.

However, the major, MAJOR exception is the further reduction of armour slots; merging armour and greaves? What were they thinking? What if I want to have a topless Nord barbarian run around like Conan, but still have him wear trousers?
They're going the same way as with Fallout 3 huh... well, if they still have the extra, mostly unused slots (Body Addon 1-3) then modders will fix it. Unless you're planning to play on a console, that is. But who would want to do that?
Wasn't the merging of the cuirass and greaves done to reduce the amount that needs to be rendered and avoid clipping issues? being able to have more people on the screen and more types of armor is also a +1 for the game.

Plus, how good did your character look when he wasn't wearing chest and leggings of the same set?
Yeah, but they should put in a 'hide cuirass' option the same way you can hide your helmet in some games.
Where is the info that you are getting for this. I'm pretty sure on g4's e3 coverage I seen an elven cuirass and a set of elven greaves when they showed the inventory screen.
Look again. There's "armour", "gloves" and "boots" but no greaves. It was speculated on the official forum that they had merged cuirass and greaves after that video was released, and a Bethesda employee confirmed it in a recent fan interview:

3) Is armor handled like in Oblivion (with each body part being welded together) or in Morrowind (with each body part separate)? Will you be able to wear both clothes and armor at the same time?

Matt: The armor system is very similar to Oblivion?s. The main difference is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary. We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we?ve ever had.

Cool, right?
Also if you allow yourself to be immersed in the game how cool would it be to have a character, a warrior for example that goes into battle and adventure while his faithful wife awaits at home? Or to rescue her from bandits for example? They are not simply going to make a spouse system without character development. I think this adds a whole new dimension of immersion, and it's not something you have to do anyway. Those of us who like the idea are excited to see how it's executed. I don't understand how someone can moan about added content. It's TES, you don't have to do anything you don't want to.
Ya, I am looking forward to more immersion this time around. Being a powerful, rich, and overall awesome member of society who didn't function in society was... irritating.

This can have so much potential, really.
Especially if your child should inherent some features from you.
Can you imagine the offspring of some of the faces you could make in Oblivion!?

I do wonder how bad reputation will effect your family.
Do your enemies attack them?
How cool would it be to come home and have your family killed or kidnapped. They managed to kill one bandit, and as revenge you hunt them down and slaughter the lot.

If they make this anything but a static model that randomly strolls around in your house, I'm actually very happy with this.

Having a wife was something i never missed while playing TES,maybe Bethesda will implement this feature to add immersion,or it ends up being something redundant.Only time will tell.

Hahahaha...so it's true.
The Elder Scrolls is slowly devolving into The Sims.

I'm not sure how you pussify such an easy concept...(Vikings vs Dragons) but they managed to pull it off.

Bah. That feature's more trouble than it's worth. Should have focused their resources elsewhere.
On what exactly. You already have over 600 or so hours of gameplay and plenty of items, spells, and skills. Skyrim is and RPG as in ROLE PLAYING game not a linear hack n slash.

I'm not really fussed because I wont bother with the feature, but it does seem really out of place in the game. And most characters in ES games are all well characterized so I doubt it'll be like Fable's marry a random nameless NPC in each village so you can watch a black screen with an moaning noises playing when ever you get bored.

That actually sounds awesome, helps you get more invested in the world.

Fable sucks because the gamplay has been getting progressively more terrible with each release, not because of it's NPC interaction/personalization.

I honestly don't see the problem. Its not like the interview is saying "yep we're turning Skyrim into a Fable 3 knock-off lulz".

Its just an OPTIONAL additional gameplay mechanic implemented which you may chose to ignore. I personally welcome it, its one of the few mechanics I actually enjoyed from the Fable games.

Why is this a problem simply because Fable did it?
Because your wife ended up being little more than a high-res Tamagachi whose sole purpose was to fart around in your house while you were off doing shit. Why did she marry you? Well, because she found your power to fart on command and two boxes of chocolate so flattering that she just HAD to have your children.

See the problem yet? *She* (a programming script) cared about you a lot more than you cared about *her*; and in the case of a simulation that means very little to the player.

Unless you have a reason to care about these NPCs (in terms of interest), your relationship with them has no reason to grow beyond "virtual housepet".

Doesn't seem that bad. I like the idea of including some sort of relationship feature as long as it's done well. Make friends with certain NPCs and they will give you better quest rewards or give you discounts or give you useful information. I know they had a disposition thing, but I had absolutely no idea how it worked what-so-ever and you only seem to be able to affect disposition by playing the little mini-game thing. Marriage seems like an odd feature to add, though.

Those who are unfortunate and don't have a god-computer to run the awesomeness that is TES Skyrim.

But then the real question is why wouldn't you just go out and buy a computer to go with it?
I would.

Seems like an interesting edition to the game.
I mean, it's not like someone wasn't going to make a mod of it if this didn't officially happen.
