I'm curious if anyone has already got ahold of the new Skyrim Update with the CK and supposedly HQ textures. I thought maybe this could be a nice place to talk about it and get some answers.

I for one am very curious about the texture pack. Currently running Skyrim HD but I really think that guy went overboard by making all textures absolutely massive. Some things just don't need a 4kx4k texture, so you wind up with huge VRAM usage. Besides that I'm very curious how the two will compare.

As for the CK, well I think that's something we're all waiting for. In a month I'm sure we'll see some really great mods be available. New dungeons, quests, NPCs, Companions, etc.

I have't done any retexturing..or actually any modding of skyrim.

However, one glaring mistake that I plan to fix myself once I figure out how, is shields.

The shields in skyrim, are use improperly, and are, for the most part, wrong for the time period skyrim is supposed to resemble, and in their usage.

See, a long long time ago, some people decided, the romans were stupid, and added a strap to the shield, this allowed it to be carried easier (instead of all with your hand) it also lead to people having much more leverage with the shield (shield bashing) This adaptation of a strap came about in the middle ages.

Skyrim's shield lack this strap, yet you wave it around like it's there, and you can even shield bash, which has you waving the shield to one side, rather than punching with it, like you'd have to with just a single handle in the middle.

Oh yeah, I do hope there's some significant combat overhauls. There's a lot to be desired in that aspect.

Personally I might have a go at creating something. I wish I had the skills to do texturing so I could modify outfits, but I'm afraid my artistic skills are not in that area.
