Skyrim - Your typical playstyle

When I play Skyrim, there's usually a certain way I like to play the game. For example, I almost never cast any magic spells, instead opting for more physical combat. I usually choose the Imperials over the Stormcloaks. I usually choose Imperials or Nords as my race of choice and I usually don't even bother blocking, isntead choosing to just throw as many health potions on my character as possible.

But what about all of you?

Is there any particular was of playing Skyrim that you prefer above other ways? Some factions you prefer more than others or perhaps a different way of fighting.

I would like to know exactly how diverse the Escapist community's play styles are.

I use daggers and bows while I travel and normal missions, but if I'm fighting a blood dragon or a troll, etc. I'll switch to the classic sword and shield. I chose Stormcloaks because they seemed less stuck-up. I wear a full set of glass armor and I'm a Wood Elf, I believe. One special thing though, is that I take one little trophy from every big story event and place it on the shelf or a table on my house. I live in Riften with my wife who never shuts up about how I got the golden claw back for her. I believe I've used her as target practice 20 times. I carry as many health potions that exist.

I shout alot too.

Only have one character so far, but I tend to pick a play style off the start and try to stick it out in games like this. Currently I have a wood elf archer assassin. Originally I would use dual wield swords for melee if enemies got close, but turns out stealth and bow are OP as hell, so no one gets close. I went with the stormcloaks off the bat because I wasn't about to side with the guys that wanted to cut my head off. Now that I have been playing longer I am regretting that choice, as they seem racist as all hell and I am an elf.

I have plans to make a smith/heavy weapons style character later, as well as possibly a mage/alchemist.

Yeah, I go with stealth/archer generally, Khajiit or Wood Elf. Though a Breton mage was also good times. Both classes benefit from potion making. Fighter class just isn't my thing.

Also, while I usually side with the stormcloaks during the opening scenes (the imperials did try to kill me after all), I've never cared enough to get involved with either side's questline.

I haven't played Skyrim, but I'm planning to as soon as I'm done with Oblivion and I don't think my style is going to change much. In pretty much every Elder Scrolls game, I go with a sneaky archer, sword and board as backup, and a dabbling in Conjuration. I love Clannfears.

And considering how marksmanship is a PITA to level and get decent in Oblivion, from what I've heard, I'm going to be in hog heaven in Skyrim.

Oh, and I'm always a Dunmer because of their fire resistance. It was incredibly useful in Morrowind and Oblivion. However, in Skyrim, I'm not sure how useful it will be considering the main possible fire wielders in the game, dragons, seems to be easy peasy anyway. I also want to ally with the Stormcloaks for thematic purposes, so that'll be interesting to do as a Dunmer.

Mage.
Destroying enemies from long range, summoning magical monsters as shields, and healing for after battles.

Also I could never get the hang of bows.

For Elder Scrolls it's pretty much a given that my typical first runthrough will be a versatile Battlemage. Fireballs from long range, sword to the face at short range. And a few summons in case I require a distraction.

Though I do usuallyend up sneaking quite a bit.

I've tried many. My favourite so far is wood elf stealth archer, with conjuration, illusion, and occasional alteration as main spell schools, alchemy for poisons, light armour, and a decent amount of skill in axe and shield combat.

I think the main reason is that through that setup, you can basically do any questline in the game. Treating the character as an honourable mercenary means that no job "feels" wrong, and the ability to handle stealth and open battle fairly equally means I'm just as at home doing dark brotherhood as I am in the companions.

I usually make a character, give them a whole backstory, roleplay for a while up to about level 20, get a bit bored and make a completely different character with a different story. Lather, rinse repeat.

I've had a lot of characters.

Mine varies but I never use alteration, alchemy. I use illusion for clarevoyance and that is all.

I play as a battle mage. Since I am playing my first character as a Nord, it feels a bit strange to use so much magic. Then again, there are so many advantages to doing so.

I am generally more stealthy that I should be though with characters of other types. I see little advantage to fighting four or five enemies at once when I can usually just sneak by and pick their pockets. I usually invest heavily in illusion magic.

Stealth-powered battlemage.

Invisibility, sneak, draw enchanted sword, 6x damage. Repeat ad infinitum.

Anyone woh has seen me play a RPG can guess what playstyle I use. Dragon Age Origins: greatsword. Dark Souls: Black Knight Greatsword. First run of Dragon's Dogma: greatsword. My first run of Skyrim by extension used greatswords which are not good for stealth. As such my second character (an Argonian named Cojo after the lizard a friend gave me that died due to a prolapse) started off doing this before I changed him to a mage partway through. The Kajiit character I made was easy to break from this trend to be sneaky by virtue of knowing that cats have soft paws for that very reason (his name was Khan for those who are wondering, named after a one-eyed cat we had that had to be put down due to cancer).

I play as Death itself. I get Jordis the Shield-Maiden as soon as possible (she's the best I think), get the Spellbreaker shield (no more wizard problems), amulet of Talos so I can use the Fus Ra Doh shout constantly, fully enchanted armor and weapons, and to top it all off, I max out summoning and have two Flame creatures with me at all times. EVERYTHING dies when I fight now.

I almost never use magic. I tend to sneak around in the shadows, peak out from behind a corner to snipe enemies with my bow, and then running back behind said corners in case anyone noticed me. Of course, I always keep a sword and shield with me in case things start getting out of hand.

I usually play through the game as a warrior my first time through but after that I like to go a thief like character with a bow and a dagger.
