Skyrim's child NPC's: all human?

I don't find it weird. Kids don't really do anything except provide a quest hook at best and being flavour at worst. Making more models just for the heck of it would be counter-productive, I think.

I've only seen eight or nine kids in the whole of Skyrim (which probably proves I haven't been paying attention) and just for that small a number, no one would add an extra model type.

Well, there were a few really cool mods for Morrowind which added (playable) children and teenagers of most races, and even babies and a family to look after. [http://lovkullen.net/Emma/kids.htm] Not to mention pet dogs, cats and a wolf companion...

Time will only tell if Skyrim has the potential to be modded the same way, I didn't see one for Oblivion though...

Beast-races/Human-elves might not: (Though that might change eventually)

The Khajiit, along with the Argonians, inhabited Tamriel long before the elves arrived. Toval the Pilot, founder of the Ayleid empire, described an intelligent, if primitive, race of cat-people inhabiting the forests around Lake Rumare when he arrived there with his expedition. Eventually, the elves and humans drove the beast races into the southern extremes of Tamriel, into the forests and marshes that humans considered uninhabitable.

I thought all the kids where from post-apocalyptic D.C.... I did notice that even the 'Grey Quarter' was absent of children but I figured that just meant that Dunmer know to keep their kids indoors during civil war and dragon outbreaks.

From an evolutionary stand point the elven races all live a lot longer than their human counterparts in the TES world. I'd guess that they have less children because of that.

Races CAN be inter racial now. Before Skyrim, it was stated that the genetics are too different. Now however it was retconned except for argonians. However, the reason no inter racial kids have been seen is because of racism.

A woman carrying a baby from another race is like a woman having an interracial baby in the 50s. It gets very ugly very fast.

racism alone doesn't stop interracial babies from happening. Especially in Skyrim where cities crop up wherever someone built a mead hall. The origin of all things is booze.

Pray tell, why would there be non-human children in Skyrim? The majority population IS human, and the handful of elves and beastmen are either lone individuals, siblings, or immigrants. Top that off with a civil war raging, one faction being fiercely against non-humans, and you can understand why Dark Elves and Khajiit wouldn't want to drag their kids along. As for Altmer, Bosmer, and Argonians, they're so rare that it's little wonder you don't see any of their children.

Or Bethesda is just to lazy to make any Argonian, Khajiit or Orc kids.

I'm wondering if it's just because the differences in life span between the Human and Mer / Beast races. According to some of the lore Barenziah was around to boink Tiber Septim and was still alive when Red Mountain erupted. She lived to see ALL of the Septim emperors. So maybe the Dunmer that are around just aren't at the reproducing stage yet.

Though to be honest I'm actually confused by the lore about Barenziah since I couldn't find another source talking about the biology of the species or their average life spans.

Or Bethesda is just to lazy to make any Argonian, Khajiit or Orc kids.

I probubly simply didn't find any non-human kids yet, but has anyone ever noticed that most of the child NPC's in Skyrim are from human races such as Nords? I haven't seen any Elven kids or even beast-race kids (which to some might be a shame, because Khajiit kittens sound like they might be quite adorable if you think about it).

Except that vampirism is a disease, not a race. Babette was a Breton pre-vampirism (as indicated by her name.

Well, there's a lot of Nord kids and stuff since Skyrim is their actual homeland. There's prolly some mer as well. The beast races are already few so their kids should be that much more rare.

What about orcs? They have their own secluded areas, where they spend a major portion of their lives.

Stormcloaks are not "against" non-humans. They are against the Empire. Theres a big difference. The Dark Elves in Windhelm were invited there by Ulfric ffs. And the only reason they suck so much is because they are stubbornly prideful, wich is typical of dunmer. If an ALTMER FEMALE can own a shop and be successful in Windhelm, the only thing holding the Dunmer back is themselves. Drunks shouting at them during the night are not the representatives of the Stormcloaks. They are drunk poor twats taking out their own self-loathing against different people.

Have you listened to the Dark Elves in Windhelm? One of them states that the Grey Quarter only really became as bad as the game portrays once Ulfric took over. It's never stated that Ulfric invited the Dark Elves, one of them states that they migrated there once Red Mountain blew, and it was the closest city.

The lone Altmer female owns a stand, and she states that they don't exactly treat her nicely but not as badly as the dark elves.

You also note that the drunks shouting at them at night ARE the representatives of the people. They are migrated to one part of the city, people are constantly ripping them off, one of them states that if your any race other then a Nord no one likes you etc. The Stormcloaks are entirely about Nord superiority to the other races and are very likely to turn Skyrim into a zenophobic closed off country if they took over. That is before the Empire would go to war with them.

I mean I stress even an Argonian on the docks asks the player to persuade a man to pay them a fair wage, and he doesn't want to because he wants to pay Nord Workers and not Argonians.

Also to your point that the Stormcloaks are against the Empire. That is the short term goal for them. The long term goal of the Stormcloaks is returning Skyrim to how it was before the Empire took over. Which was a country that did not really have any other races in it, and was prone to attempting to conquer other countries. Tiber Septim being one of those Nords that actually succeeded. The other half of what they want to do is have Talos be worshippable again. Which will anger the Thalmor into going to war with them. Which is described ingame as their plan from the beginning, letting the Stormcloak rebellion win so they can take Skyrim and make the Empire weaker.

It could be that no one has a penny to their name or because it's a dangerous area. It could also, and this is the far more likely option, be that Bethesda simply didn't have to time to do it. They probably would have done it if the creation process didn't mean they had to scrap other things. Kids in the game are pretty much tacked on as it is.

Lets see:
-Khajit, only present really in trade caravans, too dangerous and harsh to bring young along.
-Argonian, minimal presence mainly dock workers and the like, conditions in Skyrim may not be appropriate for successfully having young (how do argonians reproduce, eggs?)
-All of the Mer, well Altmer and Bosmer aren't common enough. Really there should be some Dunmer, but still the elves are meant to live long lives and reproduce less than Men races, so it's not too bad. Dunmer birthrates may have plummeted since Red Mountain erupted. There should be some Orsimer children because they're trying to eke out a nation, but how long does an Orc get to stay a child?

I'm sorry this is just wrong. In Oblivion the Gray Prince was the son of a (vampire) Imperial and an Orc Maiden. Further back in Lore Tiber Septim impregnated Barenziah, though he made her have it aborted by magic (powerful and impressive he was, nice he was not). The entire Breton race arose from elves and humans mating, because they take on the mother's race with aspects of the father and human females breed faster than elves, the race are men but with elven blood. I think I even read in one book that Khajit and elves can breed, but not Khajit and men, because Khajit are at least a distant cousin to elves with some groups of there race being basically elves with cat ears, but I'm not sure on that last one.

It's just it's something that never gets spoken about because of the animosities between each race.

If you read "The Real Barenziah, Book II" A character essentially states that Elves do not easily get pregnant from other Elves. Possibly an evolutionary trait brought on by their long lifespans since a being that lives for multiple human lifespans getting pregnant as easily as a human would make for easy overpopulation. Think if humans at age 90 were still in their prime and capable of producing offspring, the only thing stopping overpopulation would be birth control and war.

Orcs are Elves that were changed when their leader was eaten by Boethiah and then his remains became Malacath so they may be under the same breeding constraint as the other Elves. Something like 95% of Skyrim's Orcs are loners, bandits or live in a stronghold. In strongholds only Chieftains can have wives and children. Bandits are unlikely to bring children, if they have any, on raids or a to a hideout. Lone Orcs fall prey to the xenophobia of Skyrim's Humans and especially Elves, they are also ugly as sin, making interbreeding rare if even possible.

Khajiit are not allowed into the Nord cities and hardly anyone is willing to even talk to them. Raising a child on the road with little protection is not something I expect of a supposedly clever race. Someone already stated that Argonians have to grow up in blackmarsh.

I think there should have been an elf / orc child model. No khajit and argonian babies makes sense in-universe, but not no orc kids in the strongholds and no dunmer kids with the refugees. They would only have to have slight facial differences to the human child models. There are not enough human children in the game either.
