When the Beyonders arrived, the planet of Sky's Edge was barely prepared. They cruised across most of the system at a reasonable fraction of lightspeed, and braked at the last minute to arrive in orbit almost before the planet was aware. the orbital laser batteries were subverted with a viral attack, and the drop pods were launched immediately.

The defenders had expected at least some delay,a but when their defenses were turned inwards against them, resistance crumbled even before conflict began. Within days, the Beyonders had the defenders confined to the heaviest of the military bases, and a few key cities.

But the attack wasn't fast enough. The great spacecraft Nostalgia for Infinity, which had been visiting the mining colonies in the outer system had time to return and engage the Beyonder cruiser, and now the two lurk in an uneasy stalemate. The Nostalgia for Infinity is no warship, but it dwarfs the Beyonders vehicle, and makes up in sheer volume what it lacks in advanced weaponry.

And while the stalemate continues, the Nostalgia plans a response. A squad of the best troops, heavily armed and armored, dropped from orbit into New Thebe's were the base that controls the laser satellites is located. Once the sats are back under our control, the counter-attack can begin.

Given access to the best of the Nostalgia's Demarchist nanofacs, you can construct gear to your exact specifications. Your limits come down to what you want to do, and how hard you want to do it.

Your armour will have a balance of strength against weight, as denoted by it's grade. Most troops use between Grades I and III, with Grade I being lightweight armour for scouts and fast moving combatants, and Grade III being reinforced and empowered armour suits that impede both you movement and the enemy's firepower, suitable for heavy-weapons specialists and those who prefer to withstand rather than avoid.
The exact nature of your armour is up to you, but it will be classed into these gradings.

Grades 0 and IV also exist, but they correspond to excessively light or heavy armour, the like of which is not normally issued to our troops. Such terms are used to refer to enemy troops, or unusual cases of our own special units.

Humanity is no longer confined to a single solar system, and neither to a single government. The colony on Sky's Edge is ohnly a few hundred years old, and as such is still mired in the military dictatorship that the original Captain of the Nostalgia set up upon arrival. Sky Hausmann is dead now, and the current dictator is benevolent one, but is not ashamed to acknowledge that he has the means to remain in power, should things go against him.

Little is known of the Beyonders, save that they were part of the original colorization fleet, and failed to decelerate in time to make planetfall, and overshot into interstellar space. As such, their return has always been expected, with mixed feelings at best

Faster than light travel has been proven to be impossible; all one can do is approach the speed of light. This is exactly the purpose of ships like the Nostalgia, known as lighthuggers. They accelerate under a continuous but manageable acceleration for years and years as they cross interstellar distances, eventually reaching almost the speed of light.

Regardless, interstellar distances take decades to cross. Most of the time is spent in cryo-stasis, but it does mean that if help is coming, it will be a very long while until it arrives from Earth...

Sentience can be classed as Alpha through Delta, where Alpha is human, Beta is animal, and Gamma and Delta correspond to higher or lower level of programmed intelligence, namely whether or not the construct is Turing compliant.
It is illegal to create an intelligence of higher than Gamma level sentience. The official reason is to prevent to cruelty to or enslavement of true sentient beings, but around the subject there is a tangible sense of fear.

Interesting. If I weren't juggling three RP's already, and/or weren't starting school next week I would definitely be in on this.

Might still join, but will have to start school before anything can be decided..

Secondary: Katana that folds out of its handle.

Quickly rising to the best marksmen in her class, she was recruited into sniper school and became the best sniper in the army. shortly afterwards she revealed her sexuality and was deranked to a cook. After the beyonders arrived, she was re-instated as a sniper and given her pick of weapons and technology.

She received the nickname by taking sown the rest of her class, single-handedly. people called her the harbinger of death, The grimm reaper.

Psychological Profile: Always ready for battle with a gun in his hands or a joke on his tongue, very joke-ey around feared opponents. A bit too grandiose, but a brilliant tactician and able to keep calm under pressure.

Skills and abilities: Incredibly strong, prefers hand-to-hand than prolonged firearm skirmishes. A bit ineffective with firearms, but closing the distance is a death sentence for his opponent.

Equipment: Grade III armor, single-eye "monacle" optic, allows heat vision and computer-targeting; Military-grade slug-based LMG; Military-grade sidearm pistol; a pair of gauntlets that, when applied to the fists, compress the air in each blow, making the punches all the more powerful; Military-grade lead pipe.

History: Victor led a life of grandeur and glory, his dad was a soldier, his mom a medic. His lineage influenced him to reach a physical peak that could naught be compared. His extensive training paid off, and his pre-military experiences as a champion boxer and well-known intellectual earned him an officer's position the second he enlisted.

Victor has brought home many medals of valor, but lost one of his eyes during the one mission he failed. The cybernetic "Monacle" he wears is a constant reminder of his failure to his men.

- At 4'4" she is almost a dwarf. She will stand about 2/3 the height of the other players (this being a space marine Rp)
- Grade 0 armour is issued rarely for a reason. It's barely armour at all; while the others will be wearing power armour, you'll hardly have any protection. It's likely a single hit still bring you down.
- A folding rifle/sniper convertible with hidden sword will weigh a ton. Combined with her short stature and lack of armour servos, she'll have a hard time getting about.
- She got her name from taking out her whole class at once? Edit please.

Due to her OCD, she looks for patterns in foliage and tries to replicate them on her gillie, making her almost invisible when she is in it, in the foliage.

She received the nickname by pinning down the instructors of her class, during a semi live fire test (using real guns but non-lethal ammunition). The rest of the class had to rescue them while taking her out in the process. People called her the harbinger of death, The grimm reaper.

Name: Sol Denear

Physical Description:

Age: 28

Height: 5'11

Gender: Male

Appearance: Sol has green eyes that stand out from a shaven head. Everything from his beard to his scalp is shaved and creeping up from his body is a thorn-vine tattoo. Sol's body is 210lbs of muscle arranged tightly on his frame. Half of his right hand is machine mixed with flesh and as a result his pinkie and ring finger is artificial along with half his palm.

Psychological Profile:

Very stable but very reluctant to do most activities. Sol is quick to stir up into an argument for pretty much particular reason but will obey orders when needed. Under stress, on the other hand, Sol excels in his tasks. On duty Sol is honest and quick to make judgement (for better or for worse).

Skills and abilities: Choice assault specialist. Flexible at both long to mid range distances and able to last in a close quarters fight long enough for someone else to land a shot. Suppression, and diversion tactics are favored to Sol because he excels in not only suppressing his foes but also in luring fire towards him.

Equipment: -Heavy grade III armor with modifications towards his arms and his legs (Increased wrist, forearm, shin, and thigh armor through supplemental modifications). Also supplementary neck-cover for increased protection but slightly reduced reaction time.

-Belt-fed Slug machine gun that is wielded with two arms. Sol carries his ammunition in a pack on his back that also dispenses the spent ammunition after being cycled from the machine gun. It fires at a slow yet steady rate even when first firing. Fired at the waist or chest level which is the reason Sol focuses more on suppression than marksmanship.

-Combat knife fixed to shoulder pad.

-Standard issue sidearm holstered on left leg facing outwards.

-Ammunition bandoleers

History:

Personal: Born on one of the overpopulated Core worlds Sol had to scrap by with his 6 brothers and sisters. Sol's parents were doing their best to support their children and even at such young ages their children also had to work often alongside them. Being the second-youngest of the 7 siblings Sol watched as his parents and his brothers and sisters toil away. Sol often looked up at the gleaming towers wondering why they had to toil away while the rich lavished in their luxuries. Then as Sol left his teen years behind and joined the military in hopes of providing for his parent and siblings even if it meant his life.

Operational: When the instructors saw Sol's strength and power they knew exactly where to put him. Sol knew this too and soon became at peace with drawing enemy fire knowing that once he has the chance, he can deliver it right back at them. Sol proved himself as a reliable gunner and a efficient soldier. During one of his combat missions Sol was given a recommendation for his actions by providing enough cover fire for his squad and several wounded to be safely extracted after drawing fire from an estimated platoon-sized enemy force.

I am open to criticism and suggestions. If you see anything that you don't like then I'll do my best to try and change it.

Not bad, but I'm surprised to find a soldier who isn't very good with guns. But that's your call...
