Sleeping with a Headset/Phone?

This might sound weird but, just to say it bluntly, I sleep on the headset with my girlfriend. At first, I thought it was a really weird idea when she suggested it--reason being that she misses me--but I oddly liked the sound of it. We did that a few times a week, then it turned to more than that, and now it's almost every day possible. I'm not complaining--I love listening to her as the last sound before I sleep, especially since we're in a long-distance relationship--it helps me sleep better. We know that it's not good to leave our laptops on, so we set it to shut down after a while.

One of my friends told me that she slept with her girlfriend on the phone, and they're living minutes away from each other. Another one said that she slept like that and even on the webcam with her ex boyfriend a few times. Suddenly, this isn't sounding so weird to me.

My questions: Do you sleep/have you ever slept on the headset or mic with your boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you do it often? Is it easier to sleep that way? Do you think that it's weird?

...I don't and I know no one who does...

However... if I suggest this to my best friend I bet he'd do it with his girlfriend >.>

Does not sound weird at all to me! My other half and I are in a long distance relationship as well! Though we sleep with our ps3 on all night and with our ps3 headsets. :3 We occasionally slept with our laptops on all night and I find that I slept better while listening to his sweet breathing in my ear as I would if I didn't. :3

Maybe he and his girlfriend will like it. It's worth a suggestion.

That sounds really sweet. Aren't you worried about the PS3 overheating?

Nope. :) I have mine elevated and it's also the slim, so less chance of it overheating. I check it though every morning and it's just a little warm. So I think it'll be okay. :3

Prolonged exposure to a headmounted transmitter/reciever? Uh, well enjoy your brain tumours...

Did it with webcams once, it felt odd but strangely... comfortable at the same time.

Nope... not for me. I require some sort of white noise to keep from waking myself up unless I fall asleep completely exhausted, though (I currently use this [http://cantonbecker.com/music/white-noise-sleep-sounds/mp3s.php])... for which I leave my computer on all night (actually, I haven't turned it off completely in several months), which doesn't hurt it (four 120mm fans and one 300mm fan in the case mean it can keep its components under ambient temperatures in summertime, even when I'm abusing the processor with hours of video compiling), and pulls less electricity at or near idle than the light over my front door.
Sounds of another person in the room would just wake me up that much more often.
Also, I find all headphones I've ever worn to be terribly uncomfortable after a few hours... if they're not pinching my glasses between my ear and my head, they're sliding around causing abrasions on my ears.

What you do isn't terribly weird, though, considering the push for mild co-dependence pushed in our culture.

Definitely a strange idea.

But a damn good one.

I can DEFINITELY see the appeal to it. I may not do that myself, but it sounds like a really cool thing to do!

OK, that's actually really cute.

I've never had an opportunity to do anything like this, but if I ever get a chance I will definitely try this.

I used to go into my friend's room to find a video of his girlfriend asleep on her webcam on his second monitor while he did other things.

I just thought it was a bit weird...

Really?

I don't believe I actually find it strange in the manner that a person is wrong for doing it, just strange in the manner that it is unusual.

I never would have thought anyone would have the need to do something like that.

Through I can understand how some couples that have been sleeping together for years have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep without the familiar sounds or actions of the person next to them.

No, it's quite sweet in a way. In a long distance relationship, one of the things you begin to miss is the everyday little things, like the sound of their breathing as they sleep or the way they smell.
If it works and you feel closer by doing it, i say go for it.
Can't say i've done it myself though, although i have enough trouble sleeping without wearing a microphone as well.

Hey! I ran across this page while trying to find a good headset/mic combo to use. I thought no one fell asleep on the phone with their girlfriend or boyfriend but I see I'm wrong. I was wondering what different headsets you all use and if you liked them. The biggest problem with the ones I've tried is that there is so much background noise that it is really loud for my girlfriend. Any suggestions?

I know my friend used to do that when he was dating someone in Australia but other than that no. Occasionally I will be so tired that if my girlfriend has to put the phone down for a few minutes for whatever reason then I'll fall asleep on the phone but no, I don't sleep purposefully with her on the phone.
