Slow Xbox Live downloads

Ok, so, a friend of mine and myself decided to try out the Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo. I started the download, 30 minutes later it was complete (pretty standard speed).

I call up my friend, who started his download at the same time, and he was only 30% complete. He lives near me and has the same ISP. Only difference is his modem and router. He has the same connection to games as me. Like in CoD, if I have 3 green bars he usually has 3 green bars as well.

What is up with his downloads?
Is there some port he needs to open?
Would he even need to have certain ports open for just downloading?
Why is the universe constantly expanding?
Please help.

PS. Yes, I know nothing about networking and routers and such, so please, don't bother trying to call me an idiot. I'm well aware.

Most likely is a router issue. You don't have to open any ports (as far as I know) for XBL, but certain routers start dying after a year or so and don't respond as quickly to requests for information. At least, that's what happened to an old router of mine. He could try hooking up someone else's router on his network to see if that increases his download speeds, and if so, there's his problem. Just have to buy a new router after that.

If not, then have someone from his ISP come out and check the modem.

Ok, this sounds pretty logical. I'll bring my router over and see if he has the same issue. Thanks!
