Ok i've been trying to figure out something for the past hour or so and google is only helping a *little*.

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate how far away an SLR lens will actually show me stuff.

As in, how many meters/feet/whatever away will a 200mm lens show me things close up?

Example: If I wanna see a guy's face close enough to fill the picture, how far away can i be from him with a 200mm lens? 50 feet? 100 feet?

And no, I'm not talking about Zoom Ratings.

Okay if you take a picture of a man standing and he fills the picture then he will be the same size with these different lenses at these distances

18mm setting. 1.5 metres/5 feet

35mm setting. 3 metres/ 10 feet

80mm setting. 9 metres/ 30 feet

200mm setting. 20 metres/ 66 feet

I got this from a photography book ive been studying its the closest thing I could find to what you were asking
