Gameplay surprises: The little moments when playing a game when you discover something that is extremely fun to do that you were previously unaware of. I'm talking about those little details that somehow passed you by but that, once discovered, have brought you lots of fun.

I have two of these, one of them quite recent.

First off, Team Fortress 2. I think I bought the game back in 2008 mostly because of Portal and the Half Life episodes. I've been playing it on and off since then.

I used to play pretty much all the classes but never had any interest in the Soldier (mostly because I sucked). Recently, I decided to try to master the rocket launcher.

And man, it's been way too much fun than I expected... And the reason is the rocket jump. Yeah, I knew you could do it but I never imagined how much fun I'd have using it to ambush unsuspecting players :D

The other one was sometime around 2005, playing Fallout 2. However, this can be done on all the Fallout RPGs: That sweet, sweet moment when you realize you can stick an active explosive in someone's pants :D Ah, what a joyous explosion.

So, what are yours?

Crysis 2:

Ok, so I've got the shotgun, the machine gun, played around with the sneak mechanic and the armour upgrade, had fun.

Then I tear a fixed machine gun off its stand, activate the armour and full on charge down the highway firing round after round at the armoured transport as it in turn fires missiles at me, turning the surrounding car and enviroment into utter carnage... Epic fun moment!

When I started to play New Vegas, I used cinematic Killcam, I used it for a while, but it got really annoying after almost every kill.

I stopped using the killcam option for a while, but when I started playing again about a week ago, I changed it to the first person option.

I can't tell you how cool it looks, when you are aiming down your sights at a Deathclaw running towards you, then off screen, Boone shoots it and the slow motion kicks in when the Deathclaw dies just short of hitting you :D

Also this as well, the first time I did it in Fallout 3 was glorious :)

Similar. I played through the first half of Crysis 2 being all sneaky and stealthy. Dash from cover to cover, don't take chances. A stealth kill here, a head-shot with a silenced gun there.

Then came the level with a myriad of aliens dashing around all over the place. And I ran in, meleeing the crap out of them (I suck at FPS's). And the combination of the music, the exhilaration of the fight and the soft gooey parts of alien flying everywhere was incredibly satisfying!

I was getting really worked up about the whole thing. And that's rare for me.

I had fun in New Vegas when I realized that you could target an explosive someone was about to throw in VATS, and blow it up in their hand. That was pretty fun.

I found that claiming a bridge in Red Faction Guerilla and trying to hold it against waves of EDF is incredibly fun. It's awesome watching a troop carrier spin out of control, plough through one of the main supports, and fall to the canyon floor below.

Afterwards, you have to concentrate hard to keep aiming through the shaking and partial-bridge-collapsing that goes on.

Saints Row 2: Driving head-on into the flat part of a gas station pump in a car and launching yourself into the air. That still hasn't gotten old. Or using the shock paddles. I command you to LIVE! now... DIE!!
