Smart Meter Woes

So, I just had one of those Smart Meters installed this morning and the stupid techs managed to kill my UPS in doing so. Not happy.

But realistically, I am quite concerned about the known EM Radiation risk these smart meters have.

So, short of ripping the thing out, does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage it?

(Feels strange actually making a thread in the Advice forum for once o_O)

These devices, from what I can tell, put out power in the MicroWatt range.

What does this mean, exactly?

That every single person claiming to be getting sick because of them is crazy.

Your health is not in danger unless you start breaking into the 20+ Watt range (With a few notable exceptions). To put that in perspective, military Man Carried Wireless jammers put out about 20 watts, and they pose only minor hazards to users. WARLOCKS (Vehicle Mounted Wireless jammers) function at roughly 40 watts, and only pose a risk to people who sit on them (Me). DUKES (The Marines Wireless Jammer) operates at 400 watts on every frequency, but is reasonably safe with moderate shielding.

Take it from someone who's been rendered sterile from radio radiation. Smart Meters are safe (Though, it seems it could possibly fuck up your WiFi).

Of course, the major problem with these isn't the radiation, because that's not a problem.

The real problem is that they overcharge you for your electricity by up to 50%.

Even if that is the case, I would rather take a step or two and put my mind at peace.

That said, would something like a few coats of lead-heavy paint be enough?

(Also, might be worth adding that there have been reports of these things putting out a reading of 40... from the letter box... 10 meters away.)
