Smart TVs cost a buttload of money, especially when you can just get android based media boxes for less than $100 and plug them into your TV (though I'm guessing most of them lack recording functionality that I assume is available on most Smart TVs. The cheaper ones are also probably of dubious quality). Regardless, Smart TVs can be pretty useful, assuming you can work out what you're doing, and don't already have your PC hooked up to your TV. They're fairly easy to work out...they're usually android based so it's basically a smart phone with a TV screen. You can use them to access youtube, probably Netflix and its competitors (I don't know myself, afaik these things still aren't available in my country), and stream photos, movies/videos, and whatever from your computer if you're willing to do a bit of fiddling with network shares. But if you've already got your computer connected to your TV or it'd be easy to get a HDMI cable or wireless video transmitter and connect it up then they don't serve much purpose (I'll probably never buy one with my TV and computer in the same room).
