Smiling

I can't smile on demand. If I try, I get this crooked/twisted horror inducing grin that would be perfectly in place on a serial killers face if I try to force myself to smile. I'm not a depressed person, I'm generally pretty happy. I just don't smile unless I'm actually happy.

...what's wrong with you people!? Everyone can smile. If I asked you to grimace on command, I bet 100% of you could do that. If I asked you to pretend to be scared, you could do that. If I asked you to pull a face like you just took a big juicy bite out of a lemon, you could do that too. So what's so damn hard about smiling?

You just do a facial impression of being happy. That's all there is to it!

Putting up a genuine grin is simple, you think of something that will make you to smile like that.
Of course you would need to find something to smile about, which I suspect is the primary underlying issue of all these shenanigans.

I don't really smile, doesn't mean I'm not happy though, as much as people tell me I am.

When I smile though, I smile, just like laughing, it end up a bit over the top...

Sadly, I too, have problems with the open mouth smile. I mostly just have condescending smirks to give out.

I usually smile quite a lot... Infact most of the time I'm smiling. I use a whole range of different smiles all the time to communicate my feelings to others, it seems to be quite clear (Though some people wonder why I smile so much...)

But I cannot smile for pictures... What either comes out is a smirk or the picture is taken just before I burst out laughing.

I don't *like* my smile, and I don't like getting my picture taken in general, but I think it would look weirder me being all stone-faced and morose when everyone else smiles for *their* photos.

I cannot smile on command. This simple fact has plagued me from the first school pictures to the jobs where smiling is 'encouraged'. The best I've ever done is a bit of a grin or a smirk but I can't pull off the toothy smile that everyone seems to love.

I am not a sad or mopey person. I'm usually quite happy during my daily wanderings. I just cannot smile for you. That isn't to say I don't smile at all. It tends to be an involuntary thing with me though I can't recall the last time I naturally had a toothy grin.

It bugs me as smiling is one of those universal ways of communicating. I dunno, anyone else have smiling issues?

These are my thoughts today.

Fair thoughts...

I smile with some difficulty, even though I might laugh easily enough. But a smile isn't a smile unless it is made with the eyes... call me an idiot, but someone who's genuinely happy doesn't need to smile with their mouth even though it might be easier to do so than not, but they will smile with their eyes.

Even so, you'll find that there aren't many people who cry because they've seen a particular smile... or heard a particular laugh.
