I really can't force a smile either and quite frankly I don't want to. If I'm not given any particular reason to smile, then I ususally bear an expression of utter indifference, I don't think I necessarily look sad, just relatively aloof. Yeah, I probably wouldn't make the best person for a job in retail.

I can't smile on command, and when I have to it just looks awkward and weird.

I don't smile all the time, it's not because I'm sad or whatever mind you, I just don't. I do smirk a lot and I have a shit eating grin with an evil laugh that's followed right after that.

The weird thing is the right side of my mouth goes higher than the rest of it, so when I do smile it looks like I'm up to something, and they are probably right.

i was raised not to smile unless i have a reason to. it's a slavic thing. they think it's weird and creepy to smile constantly. thats why everyone seems unhappy all the time over there.
when i DO smile, it's generally really big and you can't see my bottom teeth.

I don't have any problems with smiling. Heck, I even smile when I don't want to.
No toothy grins though. Only when laughing.

Interestingly enough, according to QI nobody is able to truly smile on command. You don't have proper control of the muscles around the eyes.

And yes, if i smile on purpose it looks ridiculous.

If I have a mirror and a couple of tries, I can pull off a pretty genuine looking smile.

Whenever I try to smile, it just ends up looking like I want to kill someone...

It's rare you'll ever see me without a big smile on my face, at the very least you'll still see a grin.

I like to dedicate my time to making others happy, a smile is a great place to start ^_^

I honestly wish I could give you advice since I couldn't imagine myself being unable to smile all the time, but it's because I couldn't imagine it that I can't help you.. sorry..

Have a hug instead! *hugs*

I'm a fan of the Russian perspective that smiling all the time is an insincere Western affectation, it must be said.

My face doesn't naturally fall into a smile. It doesn't fall into an expression of scorn, either, it's fairly emotionless. Possibly I looked bored or wistful, I don't know.

I don't like being expected to smile all the time; I'm quite happy to be friendly dealing with customers, and not scowling, but I don't think it's unreasonable not to go to the other extreme while I'm... cleaning tables, or floors, or taking a box of used bottles to the bins out back, say.

I don't really like smiling much. I only really smile after laughing, but I love to have a little smile here and there. I always smile whenever a new game is out that I just got, or a new episode of MLP is on.

Also, Pinkie pie likes to see you all smile!

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediatly thought that.

*Looks at avatar* Yep, pretty true. Also, you haven't made a thread in ages. The escapist just isn't right without Retyopy threads! I always love your threads!

I grin mostly. Open mouth smiles, I don't usually do unless I'm really happy. Which, come to think of it, happens quite often. :D

Pretty much like that actually.

And hey, if you're gonna full on smile, do the Alucard!

In a completely different note, that is my new catchphrase.
Thank you for that, made my day XD

OT: I smile.. a lot..
Usually I can see the fun side of basicly everything and I like to have fun by joking around.
Most of the times they are genuine smiles, but I can also smile on command if necessary. Though it doensn't make me any happier.

My problem is that every time I smile because I'm prompted it looks like I'm up to something.
When I smile on command, I look stoned. also, when I'm having pictures taken without my awareness I look stoned. In fact, come to think of it I just generally look stoned throughout my day to day...

I usually make a smirk or a smile that makes people uneasy. Those are my natural I am happy smile and it makes people uncomfortable. I can fake a real like smile (still looks fake) but I have to be really happy to make a real smile.

Same here, but from what I gather, the same thing happens to every sane person. I'm rather quiet and prefer solitude,I don't smile all the time, but it doesn't mean I'm not happy. Smiles can never be forced and if you think otherwise you must be a solid manifestation of retardation.

I just don't smile. When I do, it comes out as a smirk, or a full-out laugh-my-ass-off. There is no in-between. And because I only laugh when I'm out with friends or in Break, I get in trouble when I'm happy in class because the Teachers think I'm smirking at something, as if to put them down, or it makes them think I've done something. I don't know, but I've been called out by Teachers for it many, many times and was once threatened with a detention because I smiled a bit at something someone else had done, and my 'smirk' drew the teacher's attention to me, along with her accusations and verbal warnings. (A Detention is pretty damn serious in my school, as it would ruin my chances of Higher Education because if you have a detention it pretty much automatically rules you out for acceptance into Sixth Form, and therefore I can't do A-Levels, and because of that cannot be accepted into University.)

Yeah I can't really smile 'on command' without looking creepy. However, when I do smile at a joke or whatever, it tends to be a big toothy grin.

Turns out my smile is only slightly different from my normal face, so I have to really exaggerate it for pictures. And then it ends up lopsided, because full smiles are uncomfortable.
