Really quite depends. I think that sometimes the smileys can add character. But constant use can be annoying.It's a good way to tell when someone is serious or not though.

I like using the faces when i'm articulating an emotion like a laugh or maybe an angry face but it's all in moderation and in moderation everything is tolerable in moderation.

I use it to express my emotions because I'm a lazy fuck that does not to put "... and now I'm so happy" After stuff.
