SMOD (super mod) is a mod for Half Life 2, but it is different then other mods.
The creators behind SMOD made it very easy to mod yourself (if you know how) and so several versions have been released by various people. SMOD takes gameplay over the top, attempting to add difficulty and over-the-top-ness (making up words? Oh yes, I went there).
The versions I know of are
SMOD-I have it

SMOD Tactical-I have it, it adds a health recovery system like CoD and no crosshairs, as well as new weapons (dual shotguns and a blasted minigun!) I have a special bone to pick with Tactical because it will only let you carry one of each type of weapon, to add realism. But there are 6 types allowing you to carry both a minigun and RPG. Still, as Meatloaf put it "realism takes a back seat to dual wielding and miniguns". Or something to that effect.

SMOD Redux- I have this too. It's like Tactical and SMOD had a baby. There are no crosshairs but you still have health and SMOD weapons, as well as some new ones. SMOD Redux desperately wants to be Tactical, which desperately wants to be Counterstrike.

SMOD SciFi- This is normal SMOD but played on Counterstrike: Source maps (it's single player). I don't have it, though I could. Both Tactical and SciFi require Counterstrike: Source

SMOD Zenith- This is somewhere in-between Tactical and Redux. You have a health recovery system again, but unlike Tactical's which is painfully slow, Zenith's is too fast-you recover almost instantly. Zenith has crosshairs, but like in CoD and Counterstrike where they spread apart as you shoot. Zenith has it's own story mode along with the SMOD story (regular HL2 but with more enemies). Zenith also has it's own weapons (most are from CounterStrike, but with completely different models/sounds).

SMOD Damage-This I don't and can't find. It is a multiplayer version of SMOD, coop and deathmatch. I really wish I could find it though.

SMOD Outbreak- SMOD tactical but with crosshairs and a shiton of zombies. It is supposed to be released but all the files have been deleted from filefront/moddb. If you can find a working download it would be much appreciated.

Sorry if my spelling and punctuation are off, it's flippin freezing in here.

I think I had this installed a while back, if its the one that adds a 'Duke kick' to the game for combine face smashing fun.

If its the same one I'm thinking of, it was damn good fun with all of the different enemies appearing in completely different places, and there was a crap load of them all over the place.

Really need to get back into some of the mods for HL2 again, but for now, mirror's edge has my attention...

Yes, SMOD has the kick which is pretty col when in bullet time.
I don't like the gibs and was glad that Tactical gave you the option of turning them off (you can also turn them up) without having to use the console. You cna also set the difficulty and the accuracy of the enemies (impossible truly is impossible, as 99% of the enemy shots are headshots). Zenith doesn't have gibs either, or friendly fire which is nice.

Teehee.

Wait, I need to contribute, too...

Um...

I don't have any version of SMOD, but those sound pretty cool.

What? No mention of CSS SCI FI 3: Hardwired? Its basicly Half Life 2, CSS and SMOD combined into what feels like Timesplitters 2 singleplayer. You start in a hub and choose from multiple levels, each one of them having their own objectives to complete. Since they can be from the past or from the future they remind me a lot of TS2 where there isnt much of a story and more of a collection of interesting missions.

In the installer you can costumize the settings and have it closer to HL2 or SMOD
