On topic yea is this not old news? I remember it came out when the smoker restriction laws really kicked in and it is apparently just a plastic resemblance that makes you inhale nicotine and let you exhale steam. Quite expensive but needles to say it didn't get any success. Most of our smokers just tried to stop instead..

First off, I don't partake in any drugs. I don't even smoke. However I DO understand that tobacco has addictive ingredients in it to hook people to continue to buy it. I also understand, through research, that marijuana is absolutely NOT addicting.

So I'd suggest switching from an addictive agent to a nonaddictive agent to ween off of smoking altogether.

Makes sense to me.

I'm sorry but this makes little sense to me, now I'm not particularly agains marijuana, but it seems like a bad idea to replace your smoking with something equally carcinogenic and often cut with the same thing your trying to avoid. While admittedly marijuana isn't as addictive and I guess you could hypothetically wean someone off cigarettes onto marijuana then cut back on that, more likely you'll just end up with the person smoking both at the end of the day.

The chemical addiction to cigarettes can be broken in weeks and even days, it's more the social habits (friends and colleagues smoking, smoking after dinner) and stuff like the oral fixation that keeps people addicted.

You don't know many smokers, do you? The simple act of taking a puff from a smoke has a huge psychological effect for a lot of smokers. Some people can quit with just the help of patches, but others can't simply because the patches work in an entirely different to the way a cigarette is smoked. These things provide an option for people who the patches don't work on.

The main reason may be so you could "smoke" in places where you normally can't smoke, but you'll get so many people coming up to you telling you to turn it off that it won't even be worth it.

They're not harming anyone, so someone who comes up and has a whinge about it should be given a blank stare followed by "Fuck off". Not to mention the main reason is not so a smoker can do it in places where smokes aren't allowed, it's so they can be slowly weened off their dependence on nicotine, with a product that contains none of the hazards regularly associated with cigarettes.

If people wanna quit, they can just get the patch or quit in another way. Its cheaper and it won't attract as much attention or be as annoying.

The patch doesn't work for everyone, and neither do all the other ways to quit. I know smokers who quit 5 years ago and haven't had a smoke since then that still get the urge to raise something to their lips when they're around smokers. They won't take up smoking again, but it's still there. Breaking a dependency doesn't mean the urge entirely goes away.

Actually, both my parents were smokers and my mother still smokes today. My dad just quit cold turkey while I was in the womb. In short, he's been married to a woman who smokes 4-5 cigarettes a day for at least 17 years and he hasn't smoked since. My mother on the other hand has been smoking for several years. She's proven that she can go cold turkey off of Cigarettes (As she has done it twice without complications for at least 12 months each time) and just treats them as a stress-relief.

If the object was to 'ween' them off of the drug, then the advertisement sure as hell didn't show it as they constantly pushed the fact that the buyer could smoke a realistic looking device while in a public area even going as far to start the advertisement with the words "No Smoking here. No Smoking there. It seems you can't smoke anywhere these days. Until now."

Finally, I can name several people who have quit using the patch and another who quit cold turkey. This list includes my aunt, 2 of my uncles, a cousin and one of my grandfathers. I haven't seen them fail quite just yet with my own eyes so from experience I draw the idea that they have a high success rate. This is what I know from experience, which I usually trust more then statistics.

I don't think it has much to do with image or "looking cool". It's better than smoking a real cigarette so, hey, whatever it takes to help people quit is a good thing, in my opinion.

Debatably addicting? Not in the scientific community. Anything can be "debatable", really. That's why we have science. To cut through the bullshit.

If this product is what i think it is, the "smoke" is mostly steam, and disipates almost immediately. Kinda like a humidifier.

It's a cartridge filled with a nicotene fluid, the steam you see is essentially just nicotene vapour.

There are two sides to whether something is addictive. The substance, and the person. Also, this "research" is something I would LOVE to see. More so than that, is the credibility of said research. Did a bunch of pot smokers just come together and SAY that they could quit if they wanted to, but they didnt want to? You can take a survey from people who smoked pot and im pretty sure that almost all of them are going to root for it. That really only reinforces the notion that pot is in fact addictive.

Please, please, please learn about weed or the subject matter before you post silly comments about it. that's like saying shopping is addicting. A few people are addicted to shopping, but it doesnt mean that the thing itself, in this case shopping or weed, is addicitive.
But, in fairness. if your taking an addictive agent, taking a nonaddictive agent, for example, fruit. wont do much of a difference?

A friend of mine tried that once, at first they loved it. But within a week they were back to the real thing. It's more for weening off cigarettes then substituting them.

This October, I worked on a hunted trail in a well-to-do neighborhood. I noticed a lot of people smoking those E-cigs and talking about how great they were except for one person who was smoking a real cig and talking about how crap the fake ones are.

While I see how they can be used to help someone quit smoking, I saw these being used as status symbols.

How is that logical at all? People who are addicted to cigarettes do it everywhere, all the time. Good luck functioning in any daily activities whilst smoking weed. And addicts would smoke way too much. And weed would be more expensive than cigs. And secondhand smoke would get people high.

At what point does the logic come in?
