What are the laws regarding smoking in your country? normal cigarettes.

I'm from Finland and this is how it works here:
If you are under 18 you are not allowed to buy cigarettes and if you are over 18 you are not allowed to buy cigarettes to someone who is under 18. That's about it, this means that if someone under 18 is smoking and he "somehow got the cigarettes legally" (which he probably didn't) he is allowed to smoke like any other person. Very few know this but the reason is quite simple: The Police could not do their job properly if every 70-year-old would call them every time they see a under aged person smoke. The thing is that only about 10% of the population here knows this and the rest thinks under 18-year-old people are not allowed to smoke at all, which is kind of good according to me.

So what do the laws of your country state about smoking cigarettes?

I don't smoke but my brother does and so does my dad and many of my friends, so I have nothing against smokers, but that's another thread that already exists ^^

Here is the lay of the law in Norway:

18 years to buy, and it is illegal to purchase to someone under the age of 18.

It is also illegal to smoke in bars and other "public" buildings.

I am pretty sure that you need to be at least 18 to smoke here legally.

I don't really know much about smoking laws here in Canada. For some reason I have it in my head that the age at which you can buy cigarettes is 24, but that's probably not true. I personally think they should be illegal, bu that's a discussion for another day.

Laws in Sweden (I think):

Anyone can smoke a cigarette, but you have to be 18 to buy cigarettes.

You are not allowed to smoke in public places such as resturants or bars.

You are also not allowed to smoke at schools, you have to leave the school area in order to smoke.

I think everyone knows that smoking is still unhealthy habit to get, but when it is not illegal - there will always be people who choose to continue smoking. external pressures do not change people's behavior, change must come from within. The more money collected from taxes on tobacco sales goes to the hospital and health care, which can only be a good thing.

People that smoke should be shot. And taxed.

They're gonna kill themselves smoking anyway.

Something like:

Anyone can smoke a cigarette, but you have to be 18 to buy cigarettes.
You are not allowed to smoke in public places such as resturants or bars.
You are also not allowed to smoke at schools, you have to leave the school area in order to smoke.

I'd prefer not to smell the shit smoke at all, though.
