Sounds quite fun. Just hoping it doesn't get turned into malware.
Didn't know that little detail about Apple's stuff not supporting bluetooth. One more reason for me to not bother wasting money on their junk.
*facepalms*

It says that it doesn't allow applications to access its Bluetooth. This is for security reasons, so people don't fuck about with your phone. So....yeah.
I stand corrected, but still that feature does restrict many options that many people would prefer were available. And not just those who want to frick with your phone.

This is going to be used so very much in the UK and Europe right now, because our skies are entirely free of and pollutants inhibiting flight.
/Sarcasm

This sounds interesting, and if I flew more often, then I would probably get it, but considering all flights in the UK are grounded at the moment [footnote]Except one in Glasgow, which apparently is taking off around now if GMTV is to be believed.[/footnote] and most of Europe can't fly either, (I think) all because of this Icelandic volcano,[footnote]Which has just gotten stonger again[/footnote] I don't think it's going to be a massive seller over here.

Interesting but potentially dangerous. some people could become so involved in it that security would notice the tell tale signs of a smuggler and check them out.

Also this "data" could potentially carry harmful or illegal files once some enterprising hacker type gets hold of it. would be an interesting development if a harmless smuggling game becomes involved in actual data smuggling.

Also, to be honest it seems sort of like poking a badger with a stick. If at some point they decide "okay, no more cell phones and lap tops at all" people are going to scream and yell, but then some people are going to point at things like this (along with the actual reasons, for which I can think of some good ones why it might go this far) and say "were you, or were you not, asking for it?".
Any major airline that bans cell phones and lap tops would go out of business, so we don't really need to worry about that.
Actually you do need to worry about it, because it wouldn't be the Airlines setting the policy, it would be goverments. Basically the airlines comply, or they can't operate. This means ALL the Airlines would wind up doing it, and you basically have a choice of giving up the electronics or not flying at all. While Airlines willingly increased security in some respects, a lot of the stuff that's going on isn't exactly their idea to begin with.

Even if only some countries did it, you'd still see a major effect if those countries were major like the US or England.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not nessicarly saying it's "right", and I do believe standing up to the system on a lot of things, but I think things like this smack of pointless antagonism.

Yes, definatly.

Nobody is actually smuggling anything, it's mostly just an interactive game between people with the apps, albiet one in fairly bad taste and seemingly designed to get a rise out of people if say security is monitoring signals and catches something about smuggling or bombs that is part of some game, hence my other messages.

It's really no differant in practice than certain DS games which you can leave running idle in your pocket or whatever and can do things if the signal comes into proximity with other people running the same game in that mode. Items can be "gifted" that way or experience points granted per system your game came into contact with etc...

Basically what your doing is looking for someone with an open signal "tagging" them, and then doing the same thing later after a set period of time and the game recognizing that you came into contact with the same person/signal more than once.

You might as well carry a piece of paper in your pocket with "drugs" written in crayon and hand it to someone for how illegal this is. It's a silly idea that's cashing in on people who want to "fight the system" on their iphones

Well, it's illegal like telephones are illegal. You can plan a terrorist attack over telephones, and the attack itself is completely illegal, but the telephones are not.

this could totally help people plan real smuggling operations

How does putting a virtual spork on someone's phone translate to actually smuggling drugs?

EDIT: Sorry, did not detect the sarcasm at first.

Oops, I didn't know it was virtual, I thought people were actually smuggling little bits of harmless contraband through security, I better reread that article, lol

I agree 100% with you on that point, no question. I know that you can still do things like connect to other phones and stuff, but it is awkward if a developer wants to let people go head-to-head on an iPhone game using Bluetooth. Sometimes it works, sometimes the security is a ***** to get co-operating.
