Well, I'm nowhere near as old as you guys, but I just changed my Avatar now because I was reminded of a picture hat I could change it to.

Mine is and was my fursona, though this new one is much more updated, and while the past one was drawn by Immelmann (of Ballerina Mafia and Concession fame) This one was drawn in much more detail from character updates over the years (despite being a WIP) and less of my ex (whose top of head you could just see under Jemoth's chin).

So for me, a necessary change: Much more detail and 100% ex free

I land fairly in the newish section of the Escapist, unless you count the time that I've been lurking without an account, in which you can add another year.
Any-who, I've changed my avatar to various Minecraft creations I've made, until this past December where I created my current avatar to finally have something related to my name. An invisible man in a suit with a top hat and umbrella. I left the hands in cause I thought it would look silly without them. At any rate, this will be my avatar to stay from here on out. Unless I animate it in someway, but it would still be that same image.
