So apparently Kermit the frog has a new GF

In the new Muppets show, they're running it more like a reality show, focusing on the "behind-the-scenes" life of the characters and their relationships. So, yeah, of course they're adding a romantic foil for the pair to overcome.

Is it dumb? Definitely.

Is it creative? Not even a little bit.

Is it fine? Basically, yea.

I could never like Ms. Piggy, especially her personality and her violence towards men[footnote]Except that one jewel thief... That fucker had it coming, anyway... [/footnote]... I hope this is permanent because no man (or frog) should have to go back into a one-sided relationship with Ms. Piggy... And then, as a shocking twist, we find out that Ms. Piggy is actually bisexual and ends up flirting with Denise not just to make Kermit jealous... ;p

Wasn't Ms. Piggy always abusing Kermit over the smallest things? I recall her always adding more than a 'slap' with kicking, body slams, insults to the heart ... anything you could imagine. But because it's done under comedic effect, it doesn't seem bad. But put that in a different lighting with Kermit begging for her to stop- then the mood dramatically changes.

It's fiction, but we're gamers. We like to speculate such concepts and relate it to the real world. I certainly believe he did the right thing for leaving her. If Kermit was seen doing this to Ms. Piggy and pulling her by the hair or abusing her violently- the audience would have an outcry believe me.

Yeah, everyone knows you can only be abusive to your wife offscreen, hinting at the whooping she's gonna get. Oh Jackie Gleeson you lovable psychopath.

I haven't seen much of The Honeymooners, but I don't think that the gag is that Jackie Gleeson's character is planning on beating his wife. It's that he always makes these absurd claims about "boom, pow, right to the Moon" to everyone that annoys him or tries to talk him down from his stupid ideas (his wife included), but no one ever takes him seriously because they understand that he's all talk and will never actually do it. It isn't meant to be funny because he actually is going to go through, but rather because he's a blustering idiot making ridiculous threats to people that could probably beat him up anyways. Him actually fighting someone would ruin the joke.

Regarding the topic at hand, I agree with some of the early posters in saying that this is most likely a temporary shift, like when that odious pile of execrable garbage Family Guy "killed off" the dog that everyone hated only to bring him back two episodes later. It is a means of either A. shaking up a long-running formula or B. getting media attention. Seems to be working as well.

I imagine that things will return to normal soon, and we can settle back down into the important questions, like why a pig and a frog are a couple in the first place.

I don't like her but I don't think you're supposed to. They probably split up Kermit and Piggy so the showrunners could work the tension angle again (because steady relationships are boring). I bet they're back before the show's over.

You mean they went against popular demand and broke up one of (if not the) most famous relationship in the entire franchise.

God, I hope they don't push this angle up to the breaking point so that they can capitalize in the romantic drama of "will they or will they not" get back together. Because that would be the kind of TV drama NO ONE would see, a mile away.

First thing on my mind was how the new gf strangely looks like Angelina Jolie if she was a pig. Then I started thinking about Jennifer Aniston's blond hair...

Have any of those people making an issue of this also have an issue with a violent, domestically abusive, showboating, loud-mouthed, boisterous, drama queen, overweight, literal pig being the show's representation of a 'feminist'.

Because if not, I find that particularly amusing about the people throwing a fit over "Kermit dumping Piggy because she's a feminist"?

But yeah, this is gunna be one of those 'added to infuse drama, then neatly resolved by the end' sorts of things and not worth making a tizzy over.

I first saw this story in the Metro newspaper at 05:15 in the morning when I was on my way to work. At first I thought I was dreaming it, then when I woke up some more I found myself feeling rather incredulous that it warranted being reported in a newspaper, even if the newspaper was free. Having said that, I just think it is a way to drum up some publicity for the new series, inject a breath of fresh air into the franchise by adding a new character, even if said character doesn't stick around. It will lend a slight air of tension I guess.
