Aquaman is a king by blood and king by profession. He has nobility bred and trained into him; the dignity with which he took down a speeding truck (not to mention getting shot in the face) in Aquaman #1 takes my breath away.

From a writing standpoint, he also has room for stories you can't tell with many other characters. Kings have courts, and courts have intrigues; kings have responsibilities, and responsibilities demand hard choices.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I think of when I hear Aquaman.
I don't really know what else to say, he's a noble king that genuinely cares for his people and won't hesitate to put his life on the line for those he cares about, not to mention he's kind of badass, maybe not the coolest or most original superhero, but I don't understand why people hate him so much.

He's nice and all, his powers while underwater are crazy awesome, and his backstore in JLA is great. However, when outside, he just isn't special anymore. He's strong, but not as strong as Superman or Wonderwoman. He's fast, but not as fast as the Flash. He's smart, but nowhere near as smart as Batman. He's just a superhuman with no distinct abilities of his own when he's on land (and he's on land a LOT). He's like Thor without Mjolnir.

Yup, that's my Aquaman as well. I know the other variant, and I don't care much for it, but that doesn't matter, because the Justice League cartoon gave us a gruffly dignified kickass warrior-king with a will of steel.

Did you really start this because of that comic cover I kept posting? because if so, goddamn have I done my job well. For those unaware

While I'm at it though, Aquaman is kind of one of my personal favourites just because every iteration of his character (barring Super Friends I guess, though even there he was pretty damn useful in certain scenarios) features him as a badass of some description. Hookhand, Waterhand, King of Atlantis, Dude who runs the Justice League, Guy who's blood-feuding with Black Manta, he's interesting to read usually and while he's powerful he's not so OP that his stories lose interest. Not to mention, he's got so much negative press that half the time it's possible to think he'd LOSE a confrontation because "Lol, Aquaman"

OT: Batman could make no amount of fishsticks out of Aquaman, as me and Eddy explained in detail. If the previews are accurate, we may actually get to see Aquaman VS Batman at some point soon, so we can see how DC plays it.
